I've been tolerant of write-ins so far, but it's a bit of hassle and I don't guarantee that all future write-ins will be counted once my attention gets taken up with the main ILM poll.

ha Black Bananas was def one of my favorite albums of the year, but no way am I voting for it on here, even after indulging my willingness to pollute the poll with false metal

Owl - First Album

The Venomous Maximus album is called Beg Upon The Light, not self-titled.

I highly recommend those who haven't voted yet to listen to the Owl album before voting.

Another extremely promising debut from a Bay Area (Oakland) band, Owl consists of three brothers (Clint on drums, Alex vocals, and guitar prodigy Axell who was supposedly only 13 when they first formed in 2009) and bassist Melanie Burkett of Dalton. Their impressive 2010 demo laid out their M.O. right from the start, heavy rock and metal with roots in NWOBHM and 70s proto-metal with some raggedy bits of thrash and prog tossed in. The epic “Glaurung” stretches out to 12:28 on the demo, and is trimmed to 10:29 on the album, with the awesome 13:57 “Thunder In The Sea” taking the spot as the longest jam at the album’s close. I hear Di’Anno-era Iron Maiden in the vocals, and just piles of killer leads, riffs and solos. Remember when great guitar playing was unfashionable in the 90s? Turns out one of the future greats was just bein’ born!

That dude Clint from Owl is a savage of a drummer.. ambidextrous, which is "the extra bone in the foot" for any drummer. He's in a few different bands around Oakland. A lot of folks have been talking about Owl around here, they're out on tour I believe right now.

Attention all: the two Ufomammut albums "Oro: Opus Primer" and "Oro: Opus Alter" were nominated separately so you have to say which one you're voting for. I'm currently treating the votes for undifferentiated "Oro" as two votes, one for each, which has the effect of bumping your #20 off the ballot. If any repentent Oro voters wish to change their ballot, then either ILXmail me or post here.

I totally think those two should count as one entity since they are two halves of the same song, but I'm guessing we've already had this argument fifteen times. Shit, I need to go finish my ballot.

I voted, finally. realized I'd only heard about 21 of these albums this year but 2 of them I didn't like. Lots of good stuff nommed, there were two I wish i'd been around to nominate though that would have gotten top 5s from me, but overall good choices.

I remain unrepentant! Another poll split the points evenly between the Oro albums. But as jon said, it's one song. A damn long one at 90+ min hence the split release, but a vote for one is a vote for both. I'd say combine the votes, but it's yer poll.

It closes at midnight no exceptions. I don't have as many rules as AG did but there is no excuse for missing the deadline.

I feel bad that my #1 is something I've only recently acquired that I've listened to way less than the others as a result, but it is one of those things where I recognized very quickly it's heads and tails above the rest.
