Hi folks, been reading your suggestions with great interest, below is a list of tracks that I've been tweaking, it's not a finished list, it's only about 1 1/2 discs and it only goes up to '86 at the minute, there will be changes.

Tracks with a *** are subject to change/revision/haven't made my mind up yet.

I'd like to know if people are fussed about early 3IB tracks like Meathook, I have a live Do The Hansa somewhere too and also Object and Plastic Passion. Also do we want the Jumping/Another Journey segue they used to perfom live?

A.M./In Your House (early version) - Birmingham '79
Meathook - Marquee London '79
Fire In Cairo - Arnhem '80
Primary (yellow version) - Belgium '80
I'm Cold - Belgium '80 ***
Do You Wanna Touch? - Belgium '80
Another Day - Stockholm '80
10:15 Saturday Night - Grand Studio Paris '80
Charlotte Sometimes (early version) - Sydney '81
Forever/All Mine - Sydney '81 ***
A Short Term Effect - Glasgow '82
Pornography - Paris '82
All I have To Do Is Kill Her/Forever/All Mine - Paris '82 ***
Lament - Bath '83
Birdmad Girl - Hebertengosch '84
Wailing Wall - Nanako '84
The Empty World - Washington '84
Caterpillar - Washington '84
Secrets - Washington '84 ***
The Hanging Garden - Ludwigshafen '85 (amazing version!)
Screw - Ludwigshafen '85
Push - Glastonbury '86
Sinking - Glastonbury '86
A Forest - Glastonbury '86 ***

I'm also sourcing Lovecats/Snakepit/A Japanese Dream/Harold & Joe/The Big Hand/The 13th/The Blood/Walk (unplugged)/Fight and others especially from the last album and the London charity gig from last year with Cult Hero/I Dig You.

Need more Post Wish suggestions.

How arsed are we about Bloodflowers (down Ned!) seeing as we have the Trilogy and all.

*jaw happily drops*

This is already looking like one mother of an effort. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Also do we want the Jumping/Another Journey segue they used to perfom live?

OH MY GOD YES. The one from the May show in Arnheim is awesome.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't even mentioned the bonus MP3 Disc yet!

mzui (mzui), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually this reminds me of something -- friend/fellow Cure freak ML Compton mentioned once seeing a show of theirs in 1982/1983 where there was a crowd of people there because of the pop fluke success of "Let's Go to Bed," but the current incarnation was concentrating more on distinctly less approachable things. Finally bowing to crowd requests, they did LGTB, but in a totally slowed down/strung out version that drove nearly everyone away. Needless to say I've always wondered if there was a recording of that...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Post-Wish tracks I'd love to see on this:

Trap
Treasure
Home (Did they ever do this live?)
Ocean (Ditto?)
Spilt Milk
The Loudest Sound
39
The Last Day Of Summer
Lost (ESSENTIAL, put it on there maybe seven times if you have to)
The Promise
Going Nowhere
Never
Before Three
Anniversary

(xpost OMG If you can find a droney freaked-out version of "LGTB" I will sell you babies of every hue.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 May 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Better get lovemaking now, just to be sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 May 2005 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll check when I get home fellas, until then just hold it in!

mzui (mzui), Friday, 6 May 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

According to the modern internet LGTB was first played in 84 whilst touring in the US.

Trap - Paris Bercy '96

Treasure - Paris Bercy '96

Home - Never Played Live

Ocean - Ditto

Spilt Milk - Ditto

The Loudest Sound - Mansfield '00/Hamburg '00

39 - Mansfield '00/Hamburg '00

The Last Day Of Summer - Mansfield '00/Hamburg '00

Lost - Everett '04

The Promise - Not Sure

Going Nowhere - Not Sure

Never - Not Sure

Before Three - Not Sure

Anniversary - Not Sure

Will check the above.

Just an update for Curiosity Redux.

An exciting turn of events, a kindly ILX-r is sending me a pre-fm cd copy of one of the early gigs that I'm taking Forever and the early Charlotte Sometimes from (and maybe now another track)

This is very cool and will bring the average quality of the first CD up by another notch.

I'm not sure how many of these to actually produce, I initially thought 5, so-far peeps what have expressed an interest are Ned, Dan, Kit & Baader.

I am willing to do around 10 and really won't have the time to do many more, so please yell if you are interested.

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yell! Can I join in?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed.

5 - Dr C.

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yell!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

6 - Onimo

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to draw the line at 8 until the 'muricans wake up.

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yell! Yell! Yell1 Yell!

Oh please.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and this is my new email

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

7 - Flowersdie

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yell! Or actually more like the falling-shout at the beginning of "Other Voices."

Petroski (petroski), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

mzui: Which of the suggested tracks are you currently looking for? I think I have copies of the ones I mentioned (aside from the Wish list post).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god yes I want one of these!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd love one as well, these reissues have reawakened my cure fanaticism.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like one, too!

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like one too. perhaps someone who gets a copy can make a copies.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, as I originally came on here to say...

I can only buy these three latest reissues one at a time. I'm buying one of the editions this Friday and I'd like to know which I should acquire first. I do plan to buy them all, though.

Right now I don't own Seventeen Seconds at all. Faith is my favourite LP of theirs and I've got "Carnage Visors" on a CD-R but I'd love to hear "Going Home Time" (since it apparently sounds like Associates) and the live version of "Faith" from the Charlotte Sometimes single. The bonus tracks on Pornography seem the most intriguing to me and I like the LP just slightly less than Faith. So, what do you all recommend I do?

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Only got the pornography reissue so far, but the bonus disc is the beez kneez.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, as interesting as some of the extras may be, my guess is that you won't listen to them that much, so I'd recommend you start with the album you'd like to get first (Faith maybe in your case). The remastering really does make a HUGE difference in sound.

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Baader OTM, only I have to say that the version of "In Your House" on the Seventeen Seconds bonus disc (which originally appeared on Curiosity) is one of my favorite pieces of recorded music ever, so you really can't prejudge the bonus material.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes to the previous above posts. Yeah, go for Faith first and be amazed, then the other two as quickly as you can. Of all the 'knock me flat out' remasterings, though, Pornography is *the* one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ned is completely OTM with that last post, BTW. The Pornography remaster is staggering.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

as interesting as some of the extras may be, my guess is that you won't listen to them that much
I don't know...I've been listening to the 3IB extras more than the LP proper, actually. "Winter" in particular is stunning.

The fact that the Pornography remaster sounds that good makes me want to get it first, but I have until Friday to decide.

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It might just change your perception of both the songs and the album as a whole. Like I said above, "One Hundred Years" has never sounded so gripping and vicious.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay guys, I will make up sets for Ned, Dan, Baader, Kit, Dr C, Onimo, Flowersdie, Petroski, Teeny, Hazel, Eastern Mantra & Kyle.

Anyone else who wants one can maybe contact the others for the moment, I guess thats fair?

Dan, as far as I can make out Home, Ocean & Spilt Milk were never played live.

I've found good versions of Lost, The Promise and Before Three.

I can't find Going Nowhere, Never or Anniversary, do you have good quality non-mp3 sourced versions?

mzui (mzui), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

you are a saint. I wish I had something lovely and rare to contribute.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

fair's fair... when i get mine i'll make a couple copies for people who would like one.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You are a hero, mzui!!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Praised be mzui's name!
Only fair to ensure your work's posterity by distributing copies to the next generation.

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yr too kind :)

I need photoshop help I think, well more than help actually, I was going to adapt the Concert/Curiosity artwork but I don't think I've got the skills (or a scanner for that matter), anyone here wishing to tackle the job? I'll print it all.

mzui (mzui), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't find Going Nowhere, Never or Anniversary, do you have good quality non-mp3 sourced versions?

I don't, but I can do some digging to see if I can find anything.

I do have "Why Can't I Be You???/The Lovecats" from a June 9, 1989 show in Torino on CD if you're interested.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I add to the mzui love and will burn further as well. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i definitely want to check out a copy of this once all is said and done, you guys have got me all excited to hear this stuff.

jonviachicago, Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

My copy of Pornography, ordered from Amazon.com, was missing its booklet. I'll return to Amazon, but I'd like to know if anyone else's booklet was missing.

paul c (paul c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to get a copy of this special mzui treat, from any source. Just let me know what I need to do.

I got the Faith re-issue yesterday, and it is marvelous, but I had a few questions about the sound quality. Does anyone else notice a touch of distortion in the original album version of "Doubt"? Just where it gets the loudest, there is a bit of fuzz. Try around 1:32 to 1:40 into it. Is this normal? Was it always like this? (almost a "Siamese Twins" quote there, sorry) I just wanna make sure I don't have a damaged disc. Is this something revealed in the remastering or something always there?

Also, I realize the demos and live tracks are going to be of fairlyrough quality, but does everyone else have a period click that runs consistently through both the demo versions of "Faith" and "Doubt"? And a noticeable hiss throughout the live version of "Faith"?

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

That's be "periodic click".

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan (upthread) dig away, although we most likely have enough from that period.

I must admit I hadn't thought about Why Can't I Be You, is there much love for this song in general? I've got some versions of it for sure.

mzui (mzui), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I only suggested it because of the segue; actually my recording might really suck, I haven't listened to it in years.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I would be happy to help with Photoshoppery -- drop me a line if you want to talk about what you had in mind for the design.

Petroski (petroski), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Have a listen Dan and let me know, a segue of those tracks sound cool.

Petroski, I shall do that! Thanks!

mzui (mzui), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"Why Can't I Be You?" is a very underrated single. xxxpost

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to like it but now I realize it is one of their weaker singles. Also that track never worked live (which they must feel too given how rarely they play it)
