shocked Turn on the Lights hadn't been nominated yet tbh, figured that'd be one of the first ones in here

I would have nominated it but I'm kind of holding off. I'm just surprised a certain K**** W*** song hasn't been nommed yet.

coal, Saturday, 15 December 2012 09:16 (thirteen years ago)

If you nominate stuff and campaign for it and it goes on the Spotify playlist, maybe other people will vote for it too!

gonna motion that The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 1/2/3 all be considered one nomination, they were available as one set and iirc we put both E-40 albums in last year's poll in as one entry.

some dude, Saturday, 15 December 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

That one's been on my to-buy list for a while

Raymond Cummings, Saturday, 15 December 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

Cool, I just removed the "1" and any vote for it will be a vote for the whole release.

Like what if I don't wanna vote for " hit me" this year but want to vote for it next year?

― Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, December 12, 2012

it just means that if after we vote in this year's poll Mystikal is in the final list, then the song won't be eligible in the 2013 poll

― some dude, Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Now that I've heard this, I'm ready to campaign for it like a motherfucker. TOP 10 OR BUST!

Way to split the Taylor vote

Tim F, Sunday, 16 December 2012 06:53 (thirteen years ago)

yeah

everybody just vote for 'i knew you were trouble'

uberweiss, Sunday, 16 December 2012 06:55 (thirteen years ago)

shouldn't be an issue tbh

Gukbe, Sunday, 16 December 2012 07:26 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure we go over this every year, but I can never remember the rules: Is Bonnie Prince Billy's new version of "I See a Darkness" eligible?

Gukbe, Sunday, 16 December 2012 07:27 (thirteen years ago)

'i see a darkness' is only eligible in odd-numbered years

ciderpress, Sunday, 16 December 2012 08:54 (thirteen years ago)

I've already drawn up a potential list of 30 or so albums to vote for based on the nominations so far!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Sunday, 16 December 2012 09:56 (thirteen years ago)

I liked "triple threat" ok!

Raymond Cummings, Sunday, 16 December 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)

the idea of voting for (or even nominating) multiple songs from the same album instead of just, like, voting for the album is so weird to me

some dude, Sunday, 16 December 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

was wondering the same thing about Miguel's Art Dealer Chic EPs, which were not released as one set.

For the purposes of our poll, I'm going to consider Art Dealer Chic as a single release.

John Foxx & The Maths - Evidence

I'd also like to thank whoever it was that put the Daily Bread album on the nominations list, thus leading me to check it out last night... I fucking love it!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Sunday, 16 December 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that was a late-in-the-year discovery of mine, but I fell in love with it immediately.

Tim F, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

Meridian Brothers - Guaracha U.F.O (No Estamos Solos...)

La Lech posted this on my wall a bit ago, I really like it.

emil.y, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

Death to indie cumbia.

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

For a second, I thought that was a lex post.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

Haha.

x-post

Actually La Lechera probably knows more than me about cumbia, but I'm not into this Meridian Brothers stuff. There's so much trippy cumbia that is less calculated.

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

can u point me in the direction of 'less calculated' trippy cumbia then, rudipherous?

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, please do. (No snark intended.)

emil.y, Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:51 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, stop hatin' and start nommin' ;)
(Just so no one gets the wrong idea, I don't know all that much about nu-cumbia, have traditionally preferred the old fashioned sounding stuff but I knew emil.y would like that track)

For the record though, aside from the sloppy cumbia Iron Man, I don't see what's not to like about Ondatrópica -- it's recorded so well, and sounds so *right* for that costeño Colombian sound that I feel like dismissals based on Iron Man cover are pretty kneejerk. I'm not in love with the Ana Tijoux track either, but there is a lot to love on that album!

passion it person (La Lechera), Sunday, 16 December 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

Ja, seeing as 'funny noises' is basically my #1 consideration for what I like in music, LL was pretty much spot on in recommending it to me.
