Man, lol @ Wendy Williams dressing down Miguel during his performance.

his obvious enthusiasm for that song is so infectious

it's gotten to the point where when I listen to the studio version I mentally fill in the guitar licks

I think I've come to prefer live "Adorn" to studio "Adorn" which was already like my favorite song of the past five years or so.
― Rolling "2 chainz" draadje (The Reverend), Thursday, 20 December 2012 23:51 (eleven years ago) link
"prefer" is a strong word but if i haven't been in the car to hear it on the radio for a few hours and i get the urge to hear it, i usually switch up and put on a live version of even that Diddy remix
― 2 Celloz (some dude), Thursday, 20 December 2012 23:55 (eleven years ago) link
really like miguel but really dislike him live

what's the difference between the live version and the studio version of adorn? the guitars?

also live drums, sometimes extended outro, swag

heard radio v of "Do You" yesterday, kinda disappointed at chorus of "do you like love, do you like love"

yeah the stations that use the single edit are such a bummer

ha, it hadn't occurred to me that "jamey, johnny, and jack know" referred to jameson, walker, and daniels

heard "How Many Drinks" on the radio today, could've a random DJ whim but i am curious if that's an indication of the next single -- it always leaped out to me as having the most obvious radio potential on the album, and "The Thrill" has always been implied as the 3rd single (mentioned on the CD sticker, already an official video out, etc.) but it seemed like Miguel just always really loved that song and "Do You," and the latter has been slow to take off. by the time "Adorn" finally drops out of the #1 spot "Do You" may have already dropped off the chart and they'll just move on to the next single.
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:43 (eleven years ago) link
yeah, it seems like they really jumped the gun on "Do You"
― hemioblock (The Reverend), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:52 (eleven years ago) link
Hoping the album's singles life extends to the warm-weather months. "Do You" and "How Many Drinks" would both be such nice summer singles
― Evan R, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:55 (eleven years ago) link
otm on single potential of "The Thrill" (for some reason the last song on the record to sink its claws into me).
― the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:56 (eleven years ago) link
was thinking a few days ago that "how many drinks" with miguel's rap verses swapped out for an actual rapper seemed like an obvious fourth or fifth single choice
― dead cera (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:56 (eleven years ago) link
rap verses
― dead cera (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:57 (eleven years ago) link
eh hindsight is 20/20, there was no way of predicting just how much longevity "Adorn" would have (last week it passed Mary J's "Be Without You" as the longest-lasting #1 on R&B radio in decades) xpost
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:57 (eleven years ago) link
"Drinks" is fine w/ Mig's little rap in there, no need for an MC imo
i don't mind it and i'm sure whichever rapper they'd choose would be super boring but it just seemed like an obvious move to give the album one last kick in the ass... but i was thinking, like, 6-8 months down the line. so i'm probably wrong.
― dead cera (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 19:59 (eleven years ago) link
it'd be waste if one of the rockier tracks wasn't a single, those are the ones that really leap out as something special imo
disappointed that "do you..." flopped. disappointed in the public for being so wrong, that is
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:00 (eleven years ago) link
"how many drinks" is fine but also kinda ignorable imo
don't think our beloved "Arch n Point" has a chance on R&B radio.
― the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:02 (eleven years ago) link
i meant "don't look back" or "use me"
but honestly if radio can't get with "do you..." then i can't get with radio
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:04 (eleven years ago) link
i don't wanna jump the gun on calling "Do You" a flop -- i'm still pretty certain that whenever "Adorn" finally drops out of heavy rotation radio programmers will just plug in whatever Miguel song the label is pushing, i'm just wondering if that will definitely be it.
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:05 (eleven years ago) link
i hear "Do You" pretty regularly, it just hasn't hit that point where i know i'm gonna hear it when i get in the car
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:06 (eleven years ago) link
"how many drinks" is so underrated as a potential single imo
also "adorn" is just FINALLY getting spin in edmonton wtffff
― bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:35 (eleven years ago) link
yeah "How Many" is kind of dead in the middle if i was ranking the album, not amazing but pretty solid, sounded good on the radio when i heard it today.
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:37 (eleven years ago) link
"how many drinks" is also the only one which sounds kinda...skeevy in isolation
like on the album it's offset by the persona miguel builds up elsewhere but i kind of don't want him represented on radio by a song about getting girls drunk enough to go home with him

because "two or three" is going to get most girls drunk? it's not like miggy is hoping "six or seven"
― bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:47 (eleven years ago) link
that's not really the point is it
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:54 (eleven years ago) link
i dunno i feel it's an important distinction, the drinks are also besides the point, it's more a Let's Be Adults And Just Embrace Our Carnal Urges Because We're Consenting Adults song rather than specifically about getting a girl drunk enough to take home...
― bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 20:56 (eleven years ago) link
this is why i said "in isolation" - in album context it's a lot easier to take the "let's quit playing these stupid gender role games and cut thru the bullshit" interpretation but by itself that's not really made explicit enough (only barely, really)
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 21:00 (eleven years ago) link
i'll accept that
― bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 21:05 (eleven years ago) link
anyway the point is i don't want it as the single, i want a) "do you..." to first smash even harder than "adorn" because it's a million times better, b) "use me" or "don't look back" as the next single c) actually i think "where's the fun in forever?" could work!
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 21:07 (eleven years ago) link
so many good songs on the album wouldn't necessarily work on urban radio, but i'd be happy with his label running with the "alt R&B" thing and working one of those more guitar-driven songs on triple A radio
― some dude, Wednesday, 2 January 2013 21:11 (eleven years ago) link
lex i think any song whose repeated, shining, carefree, ebullient moment is "do you like drugs" is going to have a tough time on radio stations whose audience is largely teenagers..! i.e. R1, and i don't see 2 or 6 going for it, though in an ideal world 6 would be an ideal home for it
i like that song a lot, the music's got a kind of huey lewis vibe sometimes (in a good way) (come to think of it, that's another guy who compared the object of his attraction to controlled substances!)
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 2 January 2013 21:15 (eleven years ago) link
choice fm should become the station that plays stuff like that, and all the explicit versions of everything - there's no legal watershed in uk radio iirc
