Here's the all-DC music thread. In the DC go-go world the veterans still get most of the attention as well--Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Backyard, and EU.

Not that we needed much more evidence but always good to be reminded he's out there.
His most recent band Coriky seems to be on break for now. Ian’s brother Alec has been doing some touring with his band Hammered Hulls .

Speaking of bands in the family tree, did yall see what I posted on Fugazi--Classic or Dud?
Tenor saxophonist James Brandon Lewis's Eye of I, my most played album of current days, ends with this track feat. The Mezzthetics, who are Lally and Canty and guitarist Anthony Pirog---goes pretty well with the other tracks---then the guitar comes in:https://jamesbrandonlewis.bandcamp.com/track/fear-not-feat-the-messthetics-2

BED MAKER S/T OUT 5/1ON DISCHORD RECORDSLISTEN TO NEW SONG "BALLAD OF TOKITAE"https://bedmakerdc.bandcamp.com/track/ballad-of-tokitae(can also pre-order there)Bed Maker's origins date back to summer 2019, when bassist Arthur Noll (Light Beams, KidCongo Powers) and drummer Vin Novara (The Crownhate Ruin, 1.6 Band), each having playedin Alarms & Controls, invited guitarist Jeff Barsky (Insect Factory, Time Is Fire) to collaborateand see what might happen. By autumn, they invited Amanda MacKaye (Desiderata,Routineers) to join them, and the chemistry was immediate. In February 2020 at DC's Rhizome,Bed Maker played their first show and then paused their activities the following month, as didmost people.Due to the state of the world in 2020 and 2021, they continued writing music through sharingrecordings. Mike Schleibaum assisted by assembling home recordings of their individual partsinto working demos. This allowed them to keep momentum, and by the time in-personrehearsals resumed, a handful of songs and new ideas were close to fruition. Bed Makerresumed playing shows in November 2022.Following a self-released digital single ("Miss Dickens") and an EP (Three on the Tree) -- eachrecorded with Schleibaum and Matt Michel at Viva Studios -- Bed Maker began work on theirself-titled LP in May 2023 with Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at the original Inner Ear Studio inhis basement in Arlington, VA, and with Mike Schleibaum at his home studio in Maryland. That their debut LP even exists is only possible thanks to the support of family and manyfriends, and also serves as an act of defiance to the horrors of the last four-plus years.TRACK LISTTwo Left FeetFool's ErrandArtful DodgerLoops/HolesTwo CaptainsCandy StriperBallad of TokitaeSeasonal RestitutionDouble DutchMiss DickensPon Pon PonBED MAKER ON TOUR5.4.24 – Chicago, IL @ Buckledown Brewing5.5.24 – Chicago, IL @ The Fallen Logpress contact: press at dischord.com

wait whathttps://www.stereogum.com/2328620/henry-rollins-teases-new-record-with-ian-mackaye/news/Weeks ago, I journeyed it to DC in order to work on a great project. Ian MacKaye and I went to Inner Ear Studios, where we made our first records decades ago and mixed a four song session with the great Don Zientara at the board. This is the same studio, where the Teen Idles, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and many others recorded. It was amazing to be back there with Ian and Don. Part way through the mix, none other than Eddie Janney, he of the Untouchables, Rights Of Spring, One Last Wish, Happy Go Licky, Skewbald and other great bands joined us. The session benefited greatly by his presence. As to the tracks, I had them mastered several days ago, and I’m now working on the layout and design for the record. When it’s ready, I’ll let you know. We are extremely excited by this one.― sleeve, Tuesday, November 4, 2025 12:25 PM (six months ago) bookmarkflaglink
