And....who could resist an album cover as ridiculous as this? (hats off to Siegbrahn on the DRUGGED OUT STUPID RAVERS SUCK thread for this one.)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 14 December 2002 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking the *inside gatefold* of Japan's "Quiet Life" was about as 80's as you can get, until I looked and found it was released 1979! Duran Duran looked just like this 3 years later. Bonus Points to anyone who can find this picture I'm talking about and post it.

Search: Suzi Quatro's first LP. Rock!!

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 14 December 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Also; I just decided to give Quiet Life a spin, and found Duran Duran sounded just like this 3 years later, but I digress...

Sean (Sean), Saturday, 14 December 2002 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't find a picture, but Annabel Lamb's "The Flame" album is the most 80s album cover ever.

This is actually a good cover, as opposed to a good-bad cover.

Most illegible logo EVER.

original bgm, Saturday, 14 December 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ya mean this?"

That's the picture from the cover, but it isn't the cover. The cover also had the Japanese character for flame and showed more of the room, but yeah you get the idea with that.

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 15 December 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, Alan....that's a logo? Who is the band in question?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 15 December 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

it's sad that i didn't see this thread earlier because this cover is simply spectacular.

Wow, Alan....that's a logo? Who is the band in question?

Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra. It's on their album Key to the Gates of the Apocalypses, which is there only album, I believe. It's a side project from someone in some other black metal band I don't remember liking much. This is good, though.

And I actually had this for quite a while but never realized that it was a logo. Then one day I made out a letter and was like, "whoa!"

Would not be half as great without the very Steinmanian lyrics proudly etched at the bottom.

Joe (Joe), Sunday, 15 December 2002 01:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yay! mistigo varggoth darkestra!!! the newer versions of that cd feature a far more boring cover with a skull.

they're a side project of nokturnal mortum, for anyone keeping score.

two years pass...

A couple of my favorite album covers. Have most of these on vinyl and they look awesome.

Oh yes, did this ones for a 'guess the album cover' game with some friends so the names of the albums and the bands have been removed on purpose. Most of them are pretty easy to guess but if you wish to know info on a certain album please let me know.

Numerous album cover threads...Dave Wiegel, who usually writes about politics, has a slide show up of "The Beautiful, Horrible Album Covers of Prog" (he's been writing about the genre all week):

I haven't listened to this album at least since I had a cassette deck, but I'd still go to bat for a few of the songs and this album cover still draws me in, twenty years later.

Weird opening this thread and seeing posts by me under my real name NINE years ago.

Anyway, I've kind of settled on this being my favorite album cover ever. As I've described it before, it's an entire movie in a single frame.
