nah still haven't listened to that

some dude, Thursday, 13 December 2012 11:56 (thirteen years ago)

"Laughin To The Bank" sounds like the end of music

Number None, Thursday, 13 December 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

I pretty much mentally file Game in the "hip-hop Ween" category at this point. Often hilarious homage to different artists with almost every song, adapting their stylistic tics and trademarks. Of course Ween's comedy is intentional, but I think the comparison holds some water.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 December 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

cant lie on the way into work i was listening to finally rich & think i may have underrated it a bit, it really is a p great album

D-40, Thursday, 13 December 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm enjoying this so far, especially after really not expecting much. Wasn't really feeling Love Sosa...

MikoMcha, Thursday, 13 December 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

I don't like "Laughing to the Bank," "No Tomorrow" (I like the beat, Keef doesn't do anything with it) or "3Hunna" (flatliner) and "Got Them Bands" is way too fucking all over the place, way too much song going on.

But I really like the rest of the album.

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Thursday, 13 December 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

'3hunna' is a classic & one of his best songs albeit the 2nd keef verse >>>>>>> ross's verse

D-40, Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

original > remix is what i mean

D-40, Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

otherwise agree w/ your breakdown
altho i have a feeling that while i will skip 'laughing to the bank' a lot i kind of like it in spite of itself, or the idea of it, or something

D-40, Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

won't get a chance to listen to this for the next few days. what is so weird abt 'laughing to the bank'?

3hunna is one of his best songs yeh

yeah i should've specified, i think ross is a deadweight here, and i've enjoyed ross over the last two years. original is fine, although not a favourite of mine

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Thursday, 13 December 2012 19:04 (thirteen years ago)

yeah "laughing to the bank" doesn't sound that crazy to me

salute me or crut me (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 13 December 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)

idk i think HAWHAWHAWH is a pretty weird hook

D-40, Thursday, 13 December 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

it's just keef and the beat are far too repetitive, it becomes really grating. that damn flute-like synth makes me want to gouge out my ears.

when keef is on point he successfully uses repetition to a hypnotic effect, but "laughing" tips the scale too far

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Thursday, 13 December 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)

i think of "hate being sober" and "love sosa" sorta like the "BMF" & "hard in da paint" beats... for a while i would get the melodies confused in my head but eventually they emerged as two very distinctive things to me

salute me or crut me (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 13 December 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

"Citgo" is incredible.

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 13 December 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)

this is a way way better song than push t deserves

this is the best non-keef chop song that exists afaik

D-40, Friday, 14 December 2012 06:50 (thirteen years ago)

that is surprisingly good! wish it had more popcaan and fewer mediocre pusha verses though

salute me or crut me (J0rdan S.), Friday, 14 December 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

pandemic, Friday, 14 December 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

im not wild about jayson's review from an accuracy standpoint tbh

D-40, Friday, 14 December 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)

er, factually its accurate, i mean his descriptions of keef & waka's styles doesnt wash for me

D-40, Friday, 14 December 2012 17:46 (thirteen years ago)

yeah last night on fb you mentioned you took issue with the description of keef 'not being a lyricist'

can you expound on that?

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Friday, 14 December 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

lol wow i can see ppl perching at their keyboards now

D-40, Friday, 14 December 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

im busy at the moment but i'll add some context in a min.

D-40, Friday, 14 December 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

no rush i gotta "work" anyway

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Friday, 14 December 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

i thought jayson's review was good also keep in mind he turned it around insanely quickly

salute me or crut me (J0rdan S.), Friday, 14 December 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i thought PF still waited for the week of release to run reviews, was surprised to see that so soon

Poli oppa lice style (some dude), Friday, 14 December 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

and miss a chance to get something out before everyone else and thus the page views? and "the first verdict?" hell nah

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Friday, 14 December 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

yeah but there are hundrends of equally anticipated albums they didn't jump the gun and do that with, is what i'm saying.

Poli oppa lice style (some dude), Friday, 14 December 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

probably starting eoy rollout next week or something

flopson, Friday, 14 December 2012 20:00 (thirteen years ago)

ah good point

Poli oppa lice style (some dude), Friday, 14 December 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

yeah today was the last day of reviews before the end of the year, so that was why

salute me or crut me (J0rdan S.), Friday, 14 December 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's well written but I probably slightly disagree with him about almost everything.

There's a lot of joy in this to me, which is why it works so well, Keef's brand of aggression is closer to Gucci's cool but menacing aggression than Waka's, and, yeah, Keef is a kind of lyricist - the minimalist kind. People tend to equate lyricism with a certain quantity of words and metaphors and, sometimes, sincerity and "messages". But Keef is pretty precise with his words, for all his cooler than a coolers, and the minimal style suits his persona. He gets the message across.

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

ive basically come around to every song on the keef album & my resistance to 'ballin' is slipping as well :-/

D-40, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 00:14 (thirteen years ago)

FTR I liked jordan's pitchfork review of keef, felipe's fader piece, and kk's red eye review

i didnt agree w/ EVERYTHING in each of them but thats true of like ... anyone

and for what its worth, critics are panning this p much across the board w/ terrible opinions

D-40, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

some dude, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 00:18 (thirteen years ago)
