Tried for roughly 2.5 hours on the original number then I saw on FB that people were getting through on the 8888 number and got through right away.

got tix for radio-activity after 7 hours of trying the phone numbers and then 45 mins on hold, i feel like a shell of a man. guy on the phone said they still had a few for techno pop, the mix, tour de france.

friend got some for Radio-activity too. I had to at least pretend to be doing some work, sadly.

radio6 just ran a piece about the people who turned up at ticket office in person eventually persuading them to sell them some tickets...

20 mins on hold, on the standard number, just yielded two tickets for Tour De France - which is the one I wanted all along. Faff and a half!

*sigh* I guess I'm a little slow, still, better that I had to make a snap decision on the phone than agonize about which one to go to for weeks.

So if I called back to buy for a different eve (but with the same credit card) I would be refused?

I was reading DJ Food's diary and he writes that at the Dusseldorf concerts there was only about 800 people, he speculated that the Tate may be doing the same thing, i.e. not selling the space out to capacity.

5) Two of Kraftwerk's most famous sound effects came from a speaking-aid for deaf-mute children, and a popular toy. The Vortrax was invented in Detroit in the early 1970s. A hand-held machine that looked a bit like a pocket calculator, it produced the distorted vocal choir sound that can be heard on 1975's 'Uranium', which was later sampled in the opening build-up of New Order's 'Blue Monday'.

This is slightly off; the Vortrax was used for the vocodered spoken word part, but I'm about 99.4% positive that the 'vocal choir' sound mentioned is just an Orchestron keyboard, the same one they use for Radioactivity (and the same one Popol Vuh used for 'Aguirre' etc). It never occurred to me that 'Blue Monday' lifted a 'Uranium' sample directly, but now that it's mentioned that makes sense!

Ah, thanks Jamie, glad to hear, just from the point of view of processing tickets and all that malarkey.

Going tomorrow night for Radioactivity too. Was in the turbine hall for a Jeffrey Lewis gig a couple of years ago. I guess the experience will be quite different!
