I once got a fortune cookie that read: "Of all the fortunate, you are the chosen one."

Josh - elliptically - I've had similar hints confirmed by, I'm guessing, a similar source. Fingers X'd, eh.

that nursing home incident sounds awful and like an awful lot to handle, not to mention the house fire and the cats. what a great interview! he is so forthright and generous with details. i can't wait to see him in january!

What was the accident with Nova Mob?
― pplains, Monday, 3 December 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah that was new to me too
― my other pug is a stillsuit (Jon Lewis), Monday, 3 December 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)
I neglected the Nova Mob details when I was compiling things: there was a van accident while the band was on tour in Germany in 1992, nothing major but it marked a bit of a turning point I think.

Actually, I can believe it, I'm just bummed about it.
Nice work pp!

really starting to convince myself that "i'll never forget you" has all the hallmarks of what made this band so great: too far cast into unhinged disregard to even begin to give a fuck about whether people are going to find it too abrasive, barked out with mouth foaming and each livid notion bleeding into the next, unflinchingly candid and pitched directly from the gut. i can't listen to the mellower songs with their more by-degrees contours in the same way.

― pplains, Tuesday, 4 December 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)
Me, too.
I have to say, it makes me nervous how much they seem to actively dislike their original mixes. I can imagine a Husker reissue series as the musical equivalent of the Star Wars reissue.
Then again, I had no idea until this thread that "In a Free Land" was remixed for the Everything Falls Apart CD, and that's a huge improvement.
― Pete Scholtes, Tuesday, 4 December 2012 23:43 (thirteen years ago)
I wouldn't be opposed to a full Warehouse remix.
― and I scream Fieri Eiffel Tower High (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 00:36 (thirteen years ago)
we'll still have our shitty original CDs!
while researching my black flag book a few years back, i argued to joe carducci that the sst stuff needed remastering, a suggestion with which he furiously disagreed. but the merge versions of the first coupla dinosaur albums sound so much better than the sst ones (same w/the meat puppets).

stevie-- sorry to sidetrack but I was looking at your book through the Shop function of my Nook the other day and there are two e-versions available-- one about $5 more than the other. Is one like the 'hardback' with more pictures and the other the 'paperback'?
― my other pug is a stillsuit (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 16:54 (thirteen years ago)
Oh jeepers, I'm not sure - could be that the US edition, which has a different publisher, is the same text & pix but at a similar price... Let me find out for you.

From Facebook:Saturday, December 22, 2012, 8:00pm until 1:00am, Grumpy's Bar: Grant Hart presents what will easily go down as his magnum opus, "The Argument" (according to us). Come on down for this FREE event. Meet Grant, hear the record spun in it's entirety and watch a live set!

Today I was walking past the venue where GH will be playing, and I saw thishttp://farm9.staticflickr.com/8223/8278552504_93c3b4fdfa.jpg
then I uploaded it to flickr and saw one of my contacts there had recently uploaded this from a book called "The Bears on Hemlock Mountain" http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8273105575_d988effc91.jpg
and I thought of this thread. The end.

Good show last night!!! He played a lot of solo stuff, incl a bunch from Hot Wax (he played My Regrets on my request!), and maybe this is a normal thing, but he sang 2541 with totally different lyrics about the 1840s? He begrudgingly played Flexible Flyer and a few other Dü songs ill-suited to the solo-with-guitar setup (also on request) and was having some guitar probs but was affable in spite of them. There were plenty of people there, but I was among the most enthusiastic. Not surprisingly I guess. I found it charming that he changed into his performance shoes, and he complimented me on my shoes as well. After the show we talked a little bit about his new album with the Irish musicians (which I knew all about thanks to the interview above!!!) and he said that he wants to start playing for "the ballet crowd" and not spend the rest of his life in (gestures around his head) "places like this."
This picture is not the best, but you can see how kind and warm he was. I think I was grabbing his arm pretty hard and he didn't complain. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8073/8375908290_82dc1bd9f0_c.jpg

I posted quickly yesterday, and didn't notice your photo till later, La Lechera--that is pretty great. Lighting aside, Hart looks so incredibly different. (I think I'll be content to exchange one of those furtive little funeral-nods from Seinfeld with Bob.)
