One quick note: you'll notice Nos. 6 & 5 have the same number of points, but unlike the other ties, I gave the edge to the one that had more first-place votes.

Next time, I might use number of votes received as another tie-breaker, but with only 25 ballots, I'm not sure how much difference it would have made on this poll anyway.

Love "Something I Learned Today"--a college friend and I used it for a super-8 film once. Never really cared for "New Day Rising."

This was also one of the songs that gave me pause in assigning writing credit. "In A Free Land" is credited to Hart/Mould/Norton while this one's attributed to Mould/Hüsker Dü.

You could surmise that band politics were really swinging into effect by the time this record came out.

Another Mould/HD song from that album is "How To Skin A Cat".

So Bob repeats take the rats from the cats and the cats from the rats 20 times and gets songwriting credit? And vetoes a slide guitar on one of Grant's songs because it doesn't fit the record?

One of those reasons that I lean toward Grant.

New Day Rising is like gospel music for me in a number of ways which I will absolutely not bore anyone with. Strong feelings!
I love it so much, especially at a deafening volume.

Hi five La Lechera! You write a list of Husker Du songs down, you've gotta damn well start with New Day Rising imo. You mentioned gospel music, maybe I'm overdoing it here but I think it's kind of Coltrane-ish or Ayler-esque in a way - the fervour, the repetition, the overall sentiment of it. Anyhow, awesome song! Love the way the drums break out of that bash-bash-bash rhythm the first time around and the bass really kicks in and it feels like this whole rush of ecstatic noise is going to carry you away. Fuck yes!
