I mean, yeah, in his prime he could have probably pulled off a concept album about it

Evan R, Monday, 26 November 2012 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

we've got miguel now

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Monday, 26 November 2012 18:49 (thirteen years ago)

urgh please no either/or bullshit

The Doc Morbama (some dude), Monday, 26 November 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

ha was that directed at me? maybe i should take out my displeasure at no one posting in my miguel poll by polling these two.....

nah tho

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Monday, 26 November 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

hey man that poll got 30+ votes, quit yer bellyachin

The Doc Morbama (some dude), Monday, 26 November 2012 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

not sure what i feel about "tender tendencies." I feel like the Weekend (to bring him into this) does what "Tender Tendencies" tries to by showing instead of telling. erius tells us he's self-centered; Tesfaye actually acts self-centered. He doesn't have to tell us this.

childish bambino (rennavate), Monday, 26 November 2012 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

feather-soft pillows of a track tho, gorgeous stuff

childish bambino (rennavate), Monday, 26 November 2012 19:37 (thirteen years ago)

Sort of intrigued by the thought of a Sophie's Choice between The-Dream and Miguel. I'd probably be Team Terius, but it would be a tough one

Evan R, Monday, 26 November 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)

or maybe we can listen to multiple R&B singers! or maybe not

hahaha

Evan R, Monday, 26 November 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

That article brings me so much irrational joy. Like, I had to re-read the whole thing again, just because you posted it

Evan R, Monday, 26 November 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

As I was saying, the 1977 remaster sounds MAGNIFICENT

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 13:58 (thirteen years ago)

pity about the songwriting

Number None, Friday, 14 December 2012 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

Songwriting is great, man. I really don't understand why y'all think it isn't.

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

what did you think of love king

k3vin k., Friday, 14 December 2012 19:24 (thirteen years ago)

Loved it.

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, I know all of the 1977 songs by heart. They're great: perfect, bitter-but-uplifting breakup songs. And Form of Flattery is such a great diss.

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

longneck I don't know if I can trust your opinion about anything anymore

乒乓, Friday, 14 December 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

tsk tsk tsk

dyslectic Christ Brown (longneck), Friday, 14 December 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

ha yeah you fell right into mytrap

k3vin k., Saturday, 15 December 2012 02:07 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

"slow it down" dropping today, apparently

johnny crunch, Thursday, 14 February 2013 12:55 (thirteen years ago)

this song sucks

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 15 February 2013 00:53 (thirteen years ago)

the production on his songs has really fallen off, "roc your body" excepted

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 February 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

tricky is busy on this sub-weeknd b.s. :-/

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 15 February 2013 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

Does not suck. Is great. Love it.

longneck, Friday, 15 February 2013 09:58 (thirteen years ago)

it's just sad how much terius has fallen off at this point :(

always used to love how he could somehow produce genius even when being really obviously lazy/tossed-off but there are just no ideas left

lex pretend, Friday, 15 February 2013 10:57 (thirteen years ago)

the well does indeed appear to be dry

then again i do love "nobody's business" (purely as a song dammit, not for CB)

my lurker username is looking shitty these days

livethedream, Friday, 15 February 2013 12:08 (thirteen years ago)

nah this is fantastic. total return to form after all that post-love king bullshit imo

Jacques_Lamure, Friday, 15 February 2013 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

i dont think it's awful, but it sounds to me like someone trying to ape dreams style more than anything else, which is incredibly :[

johnny crunch, Friday, 15 February 2013 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

i think his downward turn in consistency has been pretty gradual and not actually that huge, though just enough to matter obviously, but i don't even know how this song is half as good as "Dope Chick"

weed, tumblr whites and wein (some dude), Friday, 15 February 2013 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

I love them both.

longneck, Friday, 15 February 2013 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

"dope chick" has the dopiest chorus, i could never get into that song

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 February 2013 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

it's not top shelf or anything, but it grew on me

weed, tumblr whites and wein (some dude), Friday, 15 February 2013 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like every time this guy drops a song, a random set of people are like "a return to form!"

i mean i thought that about "roc your body" so no hate, it's just a weird phenomenon

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 February 2013 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

I'll give support to J0rdan's point: This new track is great; his best since "Body Work/Fuck My Brains Out." Didn't think he had something so bottomlessly hooky in him anymore. Return to form.

Evan R, Friday, 15 February 2013 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

i really liked "fuck my brains out" too

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 February 2013 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

That's the shit he does better than anybody else... just barrage you with hook after hook after hook after twist after hook. It's an incredible thing, so I can forgive him for losing his knack for it. Nobody could sustain that writing style for more than three or four years

Evan R, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

"fuck my brains out" is the only solo terius song i've really loved post-love king

baffled at any love for this - even "roc" was sort-of-ok in a basic way but this is just sad

lex pretend, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

i honestly always thought his solo stuff was just one decent-sized fraction of his best work. these days would much rather hear something he's written for Beyonce or Rihanna or whoever, feel like his outside writing has suffered less lately.

weed, tumblr whites and wein (some dude), Friday, 15 February 2013 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

yeah his stuff on 4 doesn't back up my impression that he's fallen off post-love king (but then looking at the list of writers lord knows how much he had to do with those songs)

lex pretend, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:08 (thirteen years ago)

xp That's definitely true, but his solo records gave him room to just let a song ride in a way the songs he writes for bigger stars never could. His best solo stuff was always so unhurried, so you could just sit there and luxuriate in how hooky and gorgeous it all was. I miss that vibe.

Evan R, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

it's funny that he starts this new song off by saying "i know they're not gonna play this on top 40 radio" despite that quote from a year or so ago where he was like "i can write a solo smash whenever i want to, that's not what i'm going for right now. i'm gonna do that when i'm 50."

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 February 2013 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

I miss good terius so much

乒乓, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

chillin w/ my ella / there's nothin u can tella

乒乓, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

This is a bit of a trifle but I'm enjoying it, more than I expected to from reading the most recent posts at least. Fabolous verse is woeful though.

I stand by my theory that Terius has always had pretty much zero quality control, but he barely needed it up to 2010 or thereabouts because his overall quality was so high.

Matt DC, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

the fab verse definitely sucks but the nu-dream alternative would've been an electric guitar solo so i can deal with it

Jacques_Lamure, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

no one will be talking about this song a month from now

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 15 February 2013 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

Listened once, that's probably enough.

skeet-skeet-gate (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 15 February 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

No. They'll be singing it instead, looking at butts.
