the frank song is low key but really good

wayne's verse on the first song of that keyshia cole album is one of the worst rap verses i have ever heard

one of the best singles of the year in spite of him though (and the verse isn't any worse than "Motivation")

okay the bruno/smeezingtons/bhasker song on the alicia record is really fucking good as well

i'm gonna do a "worst wayne verse of the year" poll at the end of the year. it's been a banner year.

Agreed. I'm not sold on the merits of the album -- I'm not hearing any interesting lyrics or chordal twists. "I Choose You" has been the one I've played a lot.

Someone mentioned Tinashe itt way back in the earlier months of the year, and I've been really enjoying her Reverie album/mix tape. Very much like "the female Weeknd" that I've heard her described as at least twice, though I imagine that this'll work for people who hate the things abt The Weeknd that ppl who hate The Weeknd generally hate; the lyrics are far less aggressively unpleasant, and her voice is a pleasant Rihanna-lite wisp.

Plus, I didn't even realize until just now that this was her second release this year, so I'm off to listen to her first one right now.

"Fuck N Get It Over With" is way better, but i can see why that one's not the radio single

I prefer it too. This one gets a bit shrieky, although the last 50 seconds are gold.

Disappointed that Melanie Fiona is a non-contender in most year-end coverage. It wasn't perfect or anything, but that album really got overlooked

Encouraged that Miguel is placing so well, though. He's really right up there in a lot of these lists

latterly i've been really reminded how strong the jade alston mixtape from the start of the year is

that poor release received almost zero traction outside of this thread. excited to hear what else Alston has in her though; that tape suggested a lot of satisfying directions she could explore

xp yeah, pity, not quality. I've listened to that album a ton over the year, and while I've never completely loved it as a whole (it didn't make any of my lists this year, and not just b/c technically it came out last year), I'm always amazed at how different tracks jump out and click with me at different times. Wonderful singer, with a command of a lot of different moods.
