r|t|c, Thursday, 22 November 2012 01:08 (thirteen years ago)

the world is on fire she's flying above it she's got her feet on the ground this girl is on fire WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT LEAVE ME ALONE

r|t|c, Thursday, 22 November 2012 01:19 (thirteen years ago)

every time i hear it i discover a new lyrical abortion -- "hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway"

some dude, Thursday, 22 November 2012 01:21 (thirteen years ago)

although after rev defended "beautiful like diamonds in the sky" i should watch my mouth

some dude, Thursday, 22 November 2012 01:29 (thirteen years ago)

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, al

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Thursday, 22 November 2012 04:48 (thirteen years ago)

lol "Girl on Fire" is abominable in every way

thraeds of life (The Reverend), Thursday, 22 November 2012 06:07 (thirteen years ago)

"girl on fire" is cliché atop cliché atop cliché, it's dreadful

vindication smells like a corpse washing up at the bottom of a waterfall.

Tenn of my favorites:

Dawn Richard - Automatic
Elle Varner - Refill
Ne-Yo - Lazy Love
B.o.B - So Good
Marsha Ambrosius - Fuck N Get It Over With
Ciara - Sorry
Emile Sandé - My Kind of Love

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 22 November 2012 12:17 (thirteen years ago)

looks like a girl but she's a flame

uberweiss, Thursday, 22 November 2012 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

give me "should be you" over "lazy songwriting" - the former could almost be a LTTP outtake. fab's verse is amazing

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Thursday, 22 November 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

guess there wasn't a dedicated ne-yo RED thread huh. 'jealous' is a total earworm

乒乓, Sunday, 25 November 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

the alicia album is streaming on soundcloud for whoever's interested

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 November 2012 22:04 (thirteen years ago)

the frank song is low key but really good

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 November 2012 22:07 (thirteen years ago)

wayne's verse on the first song of that keyshia cole album is one of the worst rap verses i have ever heard

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Sunday, 25 November 2012 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

one of the best singles of the year in spite of him though (and the verse isn't any worse than "Motivation")

The Doc Morbama (some dude), Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

okay the bruno/smeezingtons/bhasker song on the alicia record is really fucking good as well

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

i'm gonna do a "worst wayne verse of the year" poll at the end of the year. it's been a banner year.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:32 (thirteen years ago)

― liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Sunday, November 25, 2012 5:24 PM (1 hour ago)

Agreed. I'm not sold on the merits of the album -- I'm not hearing any interesting lyrics or chordal twists. "I Choose You" has been the one I've played a lot.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 25 November 2012 23:35 (thirteen years ago)

Someone mentioned Tinashe itt way back in the earlier months of the year, and I've been really enjoying her Reverie album/mix tape. Very much like "the female Weeknd" that I've heard her described as at least twice, though I imagine that this'll work for people who hate the things abt The Weeknd that ppl who hate The Weeknd generally hate; the lyrics are far less aggressively unpleasant, and her voice is a pleasant Rihanna-lite wisp.

Plus, I didn't even realize until just now that this was her second release this year, so I'm off to listen to her first one right now.

Room 227 (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 06:03 (thirteen years ago)

i' feeling this coline creuzot single (prod. by happy perez, who did "sure thing"), along with the rest of her ep

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

love how it pauses before it tips sumptuously into the chorus

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)

this one's also happy perez-produced and an ep standout too, though it appears to be 3 years old lol

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

I feel kind of sorry for anyone whose first association with Happy Perez is anything other than "Suga Suga"

these bitches is my sons and i make dad jokes (The Reverend), Thursday, 29 November 2012 03:50 (thirteen years ago)

odom is showing some life

liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Thursday, 29 November 2012 04:16 (thirteen years ago)

this lyrica anderson mixtape is great.

sorry for not listening to it until now.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 30 November 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

[deep breath]

that last inc tune '5 days' is pretty much kind of a jam u know

r|t|c, Saturday, 1 December 2012 01:42 (thirteen years ago)

i mean what is the protocol when fake matt and luke goss come along start doing half-decent spacek karaoke, i can't just pretend it's shit can i

r|t|c, Saturday, 1 December 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)

i rep for the The-Dream/Los Da Mystro prod. track on Keyshia's new record -- 'Hey Sexy'. DarkChild's contribution 'Stubborn' is half-decent too.

mingalaba, Monday, 3 December 2012 06:56 (thirteen years ago)

this solo track/bell biv devoe flip from v bozeman (as in that timothy bloom single) is super-dope

new marsha ambrosius single is diplo-produced ("diplo" "produced" as per, probably) and it's pretty climaxy; her vox are on point though, i love how sensual her upper register is

http://soundcloud.com/diplo/marsha-ambrosius-cold-war-prod

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Monday, 3 December 2012 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

impossible to listen to that Marsha Ambrosius song without thinking of the Janelle Monae song

Evan R, Monday, 3 December 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

Diplo brings it, though. That guy has discovered some new tricks this year

Evan R, Monday, 3 December 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

"Fuck N Get It Over With" is way better, but i can see why that one's not the radio single

these markers love soda (some dude), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

I prefer it too. This one gets a bit shrieky, although the last 50 seconds are gold.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

these markers love soda (some dude), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

Nice as always, Al

Evan R, Monday, 3 December 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

thanks!

these markers love soda (some dude), Monday, 3 December 2012 15:14 (thirteen years ago)

"stop trippin', you can't control that freak" may be the single greatest vocal moment of his career

chuuuch

r|t|c, Monday, 3 December 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

tried hard with that tamia lp but i couldnt make it happen

an extra 20% songwriting & production oomph and she's still got jams in her tho

r|t|c, Monday, 3 December 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

Disappointed that Melanie Fiona is a non-contender in most year-end coverage. It wasn't perfect or anything, but that album really got overlooked

Evan R, Monday, 3 December 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

Encouraged that Miguel is placing so well, though. He's really right up there in a lot of these lists

Evan R, Monday, 3 December 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

latterly i've been really reminded how strong the jade alston mixtape from the start of the year is

#YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Monday, 3 December 2012 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

that poor release received almost zero traction outside of this thread. excited to hear what else Alston has in her though; that tape suggested a lot of satisfying directions she could explore
