countdown to mention of a world of...
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)
feel like "hipsters" and "r&b hipsters" are coming perilously close to being one and the same anyway
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)
you just think that because you're not out chea on these imaginary R&B skreets
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:01 (thirteen years ago)
ding ding ding xp

Fleetwood MacLed ZeppelinVelvet UndergroundSonic YouthAaliyahNeil YoungJoni Mitchell
― fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)
I think it's a bit off to conflate the niche who are into a Jeremih mixtape and the wide swath of people who love Aaliyah.
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
aaliyah def is a 'hip musical crush' to have nowadays
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)
nowadays, and also the last 5,000 days before that
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:15 (thirteen years ago)
among the kind of ppl deej is talking about, I mean
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)
of course there's going to be some lol college kids who wake up one day and go "wow aaliyah was dope" because they weren't really hip to "are you that somebody" when they were 5
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)
thats a lot of ppl tho, is what im saying, you oldie
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)
Oh wow, it hadn't even occurred to me there's this whole cohort that have only experienced Aaliyah in retrospect, which actually explains a lot over the past few years.
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:24 (thirteen years ago)
if someone never really goes out of style as a respectable artist to rep for than it's pretty meaningless to point out imo. "Rakim is so hot this year!" xp
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)
than=then
all I'm saying is it seems college kids are getting a copy of one in a million along w their copy of unknown pleasures nowadays which maybe wasnt as true 5 yrs ago
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:29 (thirteen years ago)
perhaps, yeah
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)
The cult of tragic death probably plays a role too, hadn't thought of that either :( (and in a way it wouldn't for eg MJB, another canonical voice of that generation)
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, def. plus the fact that getting a career cut short for whatever reasons before one can fall off often does wonders for a legacy.
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:35 (thirteen years ago)
Also this Keke Palmer mixtape is excellent. Love Me Love Me Not is what I'm about
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:38 (thirteen years ago)
sounding like dawn cos you think lex is automatic
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)
Can we please drop the "hipster" accusations? They tend to obscure things. I think everyone I know who are into R&B are also heavily into the Jeremih tape.
― weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)
sb for anyone who tries to break up a rolling r&b 2012 catfight imo
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:03 (thirteen years ago)
am trying and failing to find any reason not to put kalenna 'poison' at #2 on my no-dawn list, lol at this entire sham
TEARS IN MY DRANK, TEARS, TEARS IN MY DRANK YEAH
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

xp
― liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)
this keyshia album is pleasant in her usual forgettable way
i actually decided it was cool to call ppl 'hipsters' again for 2013
― fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
#trendwatch

― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)
Aight. Let's all call each other hipsters and get it over with then.
― weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)
Good morning, guys. Who did what to whom?
― the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)
"Poison" really is just the most amazing song
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
in my fantasy world it would be the centerpiece of Last Train 2 Paris 2: Dick Big As The Eiffel Tower
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
I have to listen to Chamber of Diaries again before I decide where it'll end up for me in my albums list. The highs are so high but the lows are pretty low.

Do we have a thread for never to be released rap albums? Coming to grips with the harsh reality that Juelz Santana will never have another studio album
― Raymond Cummings, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 22:35 (thirteen years ago)
that alicia/maxwell joint was done by pop & oak... it was also co-written by that guy gary clark, jr. who i had never heard of until i opened rolling stone the other day and saw a four-star lead review. pop & oak have another joint on the album and a track she did with malay (who worked on like every channel orange song) made the album. there's also a joint on there w/ babyface. those are all in the final like four songs... everything else looks kind of drastic (smeezingtons + jeff bhasker!)
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:00 (thirteen years ago)
and for some reason i can never remember that they're called "oak & pop"
Malay also = Trunk Muzik!
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)
jeff bhasker isn't really 'the we are young guy' in the context of an alicia keys album, he did "try sleeping with a broken heart"
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)
yeah good point. but combined w/ the smeezingtons means it's probably not going to be "try sleeping with a broken heart"
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:29 (thirteen years ago)
eh "it will rain" is not far off from that
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:31 (thirteen years ago)
especially since the song is called "tears always win"
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:32 (thirteen years ago)
oh lol it looks like bhasker also did the god awful "girl on fire." and frank ocean co-wrote the malay production. and nothing w/ miguel made the album, although he's gonna be her opening act on the tour.
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:37 (thirteen years ago)
omg the song title "limitedless"
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)
