y'all always overrated jeremih anyway so i'm not surprised that y'all aren't feeling his post-water droplet era

funny to see the narcissism of small dicks of ppl who ride for jeremih but not the mixtape
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:30 (thirteen years ago)
it'd be a pretty decent tape for some new guy but for jeremih it's a not particularly compelling devolution too far into rappy half-singing half-written posing basically
i probably like 'go to the mo' and 'feel the bass' over '773 love', the cuts with marcus fench whoever he be are nice too
i don't think anyone hates the tape but gtfo with putting it on a par
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)
yeah it's perfectly fine for a mixtape but it's just in no way the THIRD BEST ALBUM OF 2012
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)
not even kalenna's mixtape is that!
barthes simpson definitely the authority on what's funny

careful man, you'll make him curl up in a ball in the corner and put how to dress well on
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)
The Jeremih tape is seriously great. What's not to like?
― weak willie (longneck), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)
oh god i'd forgotten that j0rdan said he liked how to dress well and it wasn't a joke
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)
also: tiff evans' "u got a woman" is rather great! i don't think i'd heard it til now
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:49 (thirteen years ago)
oh god i went looking for news of an album or mixtape cuz i can only find this in shitty quality and the last news is that tiff evans was pregnant, presumably she has had the kid by now
*throws hands up in despair*
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)
'u got a woman' was a brains pick at the very beginning of the year iirc
that sound is often employed but rarely dramatised as richly and convincingly, it's really stuck with me as the year's dross rolled by
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:06 (thirteen years ago)
damn i went back to bed for an hour and the thread got rough

― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)
have you HEARD that thing?
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)
yes!
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)
i guess i just don't think that the production on the old jeremih albums is as idiosyncratic as you guys make it out to be (i really like the second album, but even that one can get same-y & basic) & i think this one stays close to what his sound is rooted in but just is just overall a more colorful, engaging listen.
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)
jeremih
appeal to me
duh duh duh
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:49 (thirteen years ago)
(lil farrah joke for you there)
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:50 (thirteen years ago)
I thought the Jeremih mixtape was a little scattered/silly at first, but I've been revisiting it over the last week or two and it holds up as its own statement. It's a lot bolder than his albums, and its highs are intoxicating
― Evan R, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:54 (thirteen years ago)
the jeremih didnt really click w. me like that for w/e reason
― fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:56 (thirteen years ago)
songwriting reasons mostly i think
yeah, that's definitely fair. I think even he'd admit songwriting wasn't as much a priority on this one
― Evan R, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
Jeremih's just an odd duck in general, which is part of what i like about him but it seems to extend to his illogical career arc -- his albums are these hermetically sealed thing w/ one producer and few guests, but the mixtape looks like it was A&R'd by a major, 2nd album spun off one of the biggest hits of his career but there was no follow-up single, started to become a go-to hook singer but didn't seem to capitalize on that momentum in any way, has he even TRIED to push anything off this mixtape to radio? it sounds like he's just having fun on it, which is cool, but it's like damn dude can you focus up.
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)
like most of these other R&B mixtapes and indie stopgap projects at least seem to serve some kind of purpose in going off the beaten path and rallying the base and/or setting the stage for the next radio hit, this just feels like a guy who's ready to make an album but just threw half of it out there with some sketchy outtake type shit.

lol jeremih's music has always been about vibes, it seems odd to try and slander him for that
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:34 (thirteen years ago)
ship don't kill my vibe

i used to like the word and the feeling of vibes but it's just a ubiquitous cliché now
you need strong songwriting (like "birthday sex" and "imma star"!) not just a handwavey feeling
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)
i find a sheaf of well written songs on the fire just gives the best smoke for peering through though

i'm glad after j0rdan has spent years shaking his head at me for privileging strange, nebulous concepts like "vocals" and "drums" he's figured out what really matters in music
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)
y'all are weirdos
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)
I don't really have strong opinions about Jeremih. I liked both his albums alright and like this mixtape alright. Like lex, I have irl friends who are obsessed with this tape and I can't share their excitement. "Fuck U All The Time" is my jam tho.
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
that's interesting, it wouldn't have occurred to me that there were roving bands of jeremih mixtape enthusiasts out there
― some dude, Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)
anyway, "Demonstrate" is def my favorite non-Miguel, non-Dawn, non-Frank r&b song of the year. other stuff I love:
Adiah, "No One"Ty$, "My Cabana"Wynter Gordan, "Stimela"Usher, "Climax"Meshell Ndegeocello, "Four Women"Tweet, "Day Dreaming"Nina Sky, "Never Kissed You"Keke Palmer, "Dip 2 Nite"

xp i mean, these are my r&b/dance nerd crew we're talking about (oddly enough, one of them is a high school buddy of deej's)
― thraeds of life (The Reverend), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)
yeah but i didn't even know the nerds were rocking with jeremih like that

i mean it's 'gold' on datpiff so obviously someone is listening to it
