I'm still kicking around R&B tracks for a mix I make each year. Some of the non-Miguel/Dawn ones I've settled on:

Warms The Soul - Rocki Evans
Live Without Her - Timothy Bloom
Late Nights - Jeremih
Heart Attack - Trey Songz
Moments - Bei Maejor
Co-Sign - SWV
Won't Find Me - Tiffany Evans

And then I'm torn about which Usher to include. "Climax" (too obvious), "What Happened To U" and "Say The Words" are all really choice options

I figured what the hell w/ that Tiffany Evans track, nobody will know. Same with that SWV track, which was kind of 2011 in my mind. It's no fun if you can't bend the rules

by all means feel free to scrape any barrels available

swv's album was this year though, i think i'd choose "do ya" off it.

a bunch of people i know irl were absolutely captivated by the jeremih mixtape, idgi at all. "fuck u all the time" is aight but it's so insubstantial start to end

the tiff evans is sooooo not barrel-scraping. better than any given hyped r&b act you can name

they're really equal to me. i think in places where i actually submit a ballot i'll put miguel first for strategic reasons but i can't say definitively which i like better

truly i have no idea how you could like jeremih but not dig that mixtape. does not code for me at all.

i think the miguel & frank albums are different enough that it really just comes down to which sounds best to me over a 3-4 month period, but that always changes

in all honesty tho i'm baffled as to how the jeremih mixtape has become a line in the sand for his career or something. i've never actually seen anyone articulate that. i don't get it at all, i think its very much rooted in his "sound" & songwriting tics despite the production being done by a bunch of diff ppl

i just don't think it's a very good example of his sound or songwriting? it's not, like, terrible or anything, it's just your average mixtape full of bits and bobs that were just lying around and sound a bit unfinished

"773 love" is nice enough btw but probably represents his zenith with that style, which imo really limits him. part of the beauty of his earlier stuff lay in his amazing stylistic range (partic his ballads), which is uncommon for a kid like him. no doubt schul(t)z was a big aprt of his success too and iirc he's heavily involved with his upcoming album, so i'm optimistic

it'd be a pretty decent tape for some new guy but for jeremih it's a not particularly compelling devolution too far into rappy half-singing half-written posing basically

i probably like 'go to the mo' and 'feel the bass' over '773 love', the cuts with marcus fench whoever he be are nice too

i don't think anyone hates the tape but gtfo with putting it on a par

yeah it's perfectly fine for a mixtape but it's just in no way the THIRD BEST ALBUM OF 2012
