Rolling R&B Thread 2012

damn, where is that new maxwell record. he sounds great there.

he acted like the album (or at least the single) was coming this year but then he cancelled his summer tour due to vocal hemorrhaging, so i'm hoping he's just waiting until his voice is better to be able to promote/tour for the new record

would far prefer Keyshia Cole singing this collab instead of Alicia Keys

I've liked a couple things. Her last bit on this one made me wonder why Maxwell couldn't have let that guitar do the emoting.

there are actually a couple of songs on the new keyshia where she is...kinda understated! nearly fell off my chair.

keys might seem overwrought because she tends towards the vague and non-specific in her songwriting, but at her best this just means she's astonishingly good at conveying grandly nebulous universals.

i'm a fan of that song but it's a little lol for your to gravitate to something so los/terius-ish

This might actually be my biggest disappointment of the year? I was so eager.

never believe anything an artists says about an album ever

especially r&b artists. just look at brainwasher's list in the first post of this thread every year

wellllllll yeah but there's a difference between the "i made 30 songs already but the label doesn't hear a hit" vs. a guy who goes platinum every time around having voice problems

although lol "Cassie (this will happen)"

The opening posts on these threads seem immediately sad to me now. It's like when a mid-tier character in a film or tv show suddenly gets a lot of screen time in preparation for their impending, sudden killing-off.

estelle was prob the best album that did get released that no one apart from me thought was any good :(

Co-Sign - SWV
Won't Find Me - Tiffany Evans

And then I'm torn about which Usher to include. "Climax" (too obvious), "What Happened To U" and "Say The Words" are all really choice options

a bunch of people i know irl were absolutely captivated by the jeremih mixtape, idgi at all. "fuck u all the time" is aight but it's so insubstantial start to end

the tiff evans is sooooo not barrel-scraping. better than any given hyped r&b act you can name

jeremih mixtape is my no 3 album of the year after miguel & frank
