2 Chaaainz...

Yeah, it was fun, despite waiting an hour and a half to get inside the venue in the cold. He didn't end up playing until around 2:00am, but it was a cool show. I have nothing at all against Tity Boi playing the 1 minute of each track he's featured on. Ground floor was like a mosh pit.

this is more or less the twitter-generation version of having a tattoo on your face?

This OXYxMORON is the best rap album about momma's chicken and not selling your soul to the devil in ages:

Also, the new Tree tape is good.

weak willie (longneck), Monday, 19 November 2012 12:37 (thirteen years ago)

i don't necessarily think having a separate rap poll again is a great idea but we should prob talk about best mixtapes of the year huh? i missed so much and have no idea where to start, wish tpp had kept doing the 'goon report' thing every month or two.

K3v Ink (some dude), Monday, 19 November 2012 12:46 (thirteen years ago)

haven't really got a chance to listen to it yet but the new rich kidz tape sounded pretty good, tho maybe not quite as epic as 'everybody eat bread'

OXYxMORON will appeal to big krit fans

moptop will appeal to young thug fans

sisilafami, Monday, 19 November 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not a Big Krit fan, and the OXYxMORON appeals to me. It's Krit without all the extra baggage, content with being rather than meaning, etc.

Cheers for the heads up on new rich kidz J0rdan. I really really dug 'everybody eat bread' although 'my life' kinda dwarfed everything else on there.

Next month, the two men, along with the popular hip-hop lyrics Web site Rap Genius, will announce a pilot project to use hip-hop to teach science in 10 New York City public schools.

based on what i've heard from the keef record this isn't anything remotely like a waka career path. seems like a pretty decent debut record which is to say a mixed bag w/ some great original songs that have no precedent & show strong personality ('love sosa' 'hate being sober') songs that are nearly a year old & we are tired of & no longer sound as fresh ('3hunna' 'i dont like') weird but solid songs that show the primary influence of gucci mane (who, musically, seems like a much more significant influence on keef at this point than Waka does, imho) ('laughing to the bank,' 'diamonds') and then wack /forgettable tracks that either aim for modern rap sound ('no tomorrow' the mike will joint) or post-soulja boy autotune gumbo ('ballin'). i guess that leaves 'kaykay' which is obv dope but mostly for how it humanizes him.

basically i think that this is a nascent career & he has a higher potential ceiling that he hasn't reached yet, has an original voice but is still evolving out from under his influences on all but his best tracks, but still has a strong enough individual voice that im not partic worried or anything

DLing this

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:16 (thirteen years ago)

Can we Wiki together a timeline that breaks down just how much hip-hop culture is derived from, or at the very least, was heavily influenced by gay culture? How Tupac Shakur grew up in house music-obsessed Baltimore (hometown of queer-cinema godfather John Waters and transgender DJ/vocalist Miss Tony)

stopped here

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i thought the tupac/baltimore thing was kind of a stretch

U.S. State Department, Office of Rare Psych (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

good thing he didn't grow up in a city that didn't have any gays or we'd be forced to suggest hip hop was not derived from gay culture

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

i forgot he was from baltimore, i remembered he went to that Fame school in NYC with jada pinkett and stuff

it was really weird when tupac embraced being a west coast soldier so hard in the death row era, just given his background

U.S. State Department, Office of Rare Psych (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 November 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

well everyone who lives in baltimore is required to watch john waters movies and have sex with him fyi
