This new Chrisette Michele track seems like a logical reinvention:

no idea how that's a 'reinvention'

New The-Dream. From... eh... his new album... 1977:

sounded pretty good at first but the time he started blathering "not literally speaking but figuratively speaking" i started to tune it out
― some dude, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)
Terrible song, terrible decision to waste whatever remaining clout he has left to release an album on a reissue of an unloved, sort of hateful mixtape instead of the full length that he insists he has finished
― Evan R, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)
wasn't there even a listening party for the new full length at some point?
― tpp, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)
There was. The decision to rerelease 1977 is very strange and very bad. I do love 1977 though, so it's not unloved.
― weak willie (longneck), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:35 (thirteen years ago)
none of the release announcements specify whether it's coming out on Def Jam (which he could mayyybe make happen since he's VP of A&R over there now) or if it's just some quickie thing he's selling on iTunes while The Love IV gets delayed another year.
― some dude, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:39 (thirteen years ago)
It's definitely an excuse to delay Love IV. And if he redoes it to give it the type of polish his other albums have, I'll be fine with it being re-released. I just don't see why they couldn't release it WITH Love IV, as a bonus disc or something, instead. Just doesn't make sense.

1977 was such garbage, has jordan come to his senses on that one yet?
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)
No it wasn't. If anything, Jordan underrated it.
― weak willie (longneck), Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:00 (thirteen years ago)
Anyway, seeing two Nash/McKinney songs in a row on the new Rihanna album made me very happy.
― weak willie (longneck), Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)
it's kind of funny how he fell out of favor as a go-to hitmaker with most of the industry but Bey and Rih are just like fuck it he's still cool and keep putting him on blockbuster albums
― some dude, Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

1977 is good
― lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)
at this point there's as much a chance that i would go back and listen to 1977 instead of love king, which -- while good in its own right -- is still mostly a noticeably worse version of love vs money
― lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 20:00 (thirteen years ago)
Ha. Don't let them fool you, Jordan. You don't have to choose between them. They both hold up. And I'd much rather put on 1977 than HoB right now.
― weak willie (longneck), Thursday, 15 November 2012 20:03 (thirteen years ago)
just re-read my review and i think it totally holds up

This full Rih/CB/Terius/Los track is a monster btw, in every sense of the word.

yeah it's really good
― lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 20:42 (thirteen years ago)
Monstrous. It makes me want to sing and dance and puke at the same time.

― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Thursday, 15 November 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
also i just wanna ask something i asked on tumblr earlier, what good r&b jams from 2012 are there which are made for dancing to? proper choreography and everything. fast fast tempo. if there's a video of this, even better. so far i have, like, ciara and dawn and tiffany evans and kalenna.

Ha, according to the wiki page MJ has a writing credit, so that is probably him doing the growl and not CB.
― weak willie (longneck), Thursday, 15 November 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
I think one of these ne-yo songs is literally using the apple mail sound for getting mail as part of the beat, smh

a pre-emptive NO to both alunageorge and inc., just in case anyone was thinking of repping for them

Sounds like CB mimicking MJ's growl with sampled MJ echoing him.
Dream/Los song on the new Keyshia Cole > both Dream/Los songs on the new Rihanna
I have no problem with AlunaGeorge. Inc seem kinda preposterous.
― Andy K, Monday, 19 November 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)
link the keyshia one?
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Monday, 19 November 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)
heard some inc. tracks today and i kind of liked them. they have skeletons of really good tracks imo but the production & singing are so thin... i couldn't imagine anyone who actively listens to 'real' r&b jamming this shit. just makes me want to listen to urban hang suite or w/e.
i think they're better than alunageorge, for whatever that's worth

RAISE YOUR STANDARDS OF ENJOYMENT
― #YOLO ONO (lex pretend), Monday, 19 November 2012 17:09 (thirteen years ago)
essentially what i'm saying is that it all sounds very demo-y. sometimes demos can be good! if it's your whole aesthetic tho then that's a problem but it's not like i can't recognize the makings of a good song and/or still get some enjoyment out of something that i think still could be much better. i don't think those are warring ideas.
in any event i'm really not insulted by inc. whatsoever. in fact as far as indie r&b goes they're actually at least doing something slightly different opposed to all this druggy post-cassie dubstep remix-wave. like i could imagine a live band playing those inc. tracks.
― pussy try it (J0rdan S.), Monday, 19 November 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)
