Oh man....I just realized this was cited way up thread. Delete me, please.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 May 2004 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If it makes you feel any better, Jon made the same mistake a few posts back. Wait, maybe it doesn't.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 22 May 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I still wish that Eve 6 song was a Mighty Mighty Lemon Drops cover.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 22 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet back in their 80's underground heyday no one would have ever thought of seeing Butthole Surfers on that type of compilation.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 22 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Anything with "No Rain" or "You Get What You Give" on it can't be all bad.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Saturday, 22 May 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Anything with both on it is tacky pandering, though.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 22 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

What a wretched time to grow up...

UGHHH.... This thread sums up my life from like 6th grade till the start of 9th grade. Also:

-- NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS REMIND YOU THAT ZERO IS ALSO A NUMBER (william...), May 12th, 2004.

I BELIEVE THAT ELVIS IS DEAD.

-- nickalicious (nza2342...), May 12th, 2004.

Also, Pulp Fiction came out in 1994. OMG WTF?!?! Am I old yet?

-- WHY DIDN'T I JUST BECOME A METALHEAD? (william...), May 12th, 2004.

1990's nostalgia is going to be so terrifying.

-- strongo hulkington (dubplatestyl...), May 12th, 2004.

OTM. We are GWENERATION BUSH.

latebloomer: the rebel sound of grits and bacon (latebloomer), Sunday, 15 May 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i still have that x-files soundtrack cd, too.

latebloomer: the rebel sound of grits and bacon (latebloomer), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Judgment Night
(bonus 'points' for its rock/rap hybrids soundtracking suburbanites trapped in gangland hell plotline):

1. Just Another Victim performed by Helmet /House of Pain - 4:21

and thus the seeds of Durstitude were planted in the musical landscape.

Meet the Feebles?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

My mate Tom had the drunken idea once that Empire Record should be rereleased on DVD every 6 months with the soundcheck altered to represent what was in the charts at that moment.

I think this is a very good idea.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

its kinda weird to say this now, but around this time (1995 or so) the first Korn album had come out, and it seemed OUT THERE and FREAKY to my 8th grade ears. the 'weird skater' kids were into it. and it had a singer screaming nursery rhymes. KUH-RAYZEEE

i suppose that's a testament to how musically bland that era was.

latebloomer: the rebel sound of grits and bacon (latebloomer), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM. We are GWENERATION BUSH.

Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I need any further proof. You people are out of your fucking minds.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 18 December 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

A little more context would be nice.

Ned at dali's place (donut), Sunday, 18 December 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Referring to the top half of this thread, before it turned into "name that soundtrack" - most of these records are not especially bad. This is just another 90's-hatorz thread. If you hate the 90s you hate music.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 18 December 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

See, I was about to say the opposite. Reading the top half of this thread kind of redeemed my faith in ILM. I

rkjfkfjkj, Sunday, 18 December 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

There was no original Frampton on the Reality Bites soundtrack? That seems so wrong.

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 18 December 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Good for you and your faith.

Seems to me that most of the people who posted these albums looked at the bands involved and judged the records based on the few that they recognize, without having heard the actual songs.

Romeo + Juliet is not a bad album at all. It has "Talk Show Host" and "Lovefool," which are 2 of the best songs ever made.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

If you want a not-so-great 90's comp, may I suggest the John Lennon tribute album "Working Class Hero." The 3 or 4 best songs are listenable, but mediocre efforts, and most of the rest is not quite as enjoyable.

And I absolutely hate that Zeppelin tribute record that included STP's cover of "Dancing Days" (worst thing they ever did by far) and 4 Non Blondes ugly version of "Hey Hey What Can I Do."

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

It also has One Inch Punch, Des'Ree, and the fucking Wannadies.

The Wannadies don't get enough hate around these parts, or in the wider world in general.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

romeo and juliet has that gavin friday tune as well.

gear (gear), Sunday, 18 December 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

Today at work I listened to the soundtracks to The Crow, Suburbia, and Mad Love.

Tracks 3 through 12 on The Crow are all good songs. The Cure song is eh, and the Medicene song is annoying. The other 2 are shit. 10 out of 14 isn't bad. The Crow soundtrack is not worth the title of this thread.

There are 2 good songs on Mad Love. (#3 and #6 I think.)

The Suburbia soundtrack has some shockingly outstanding moments (an 8-minute version of "Sunday" by Sonic Youth?!!?), but much like most of the albums discussed here, it's unfortuantely uneven.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

If for no other reason, The Crow ST gets a pass simply for being the first American release to contain "Snakedriver" by JAMC - definitely a high point of their twilight years (and certainly a staple of their live sets from around that time).

I never owned it, though, so Question: Is the Crow version of Time Baby III the one that has backing vocals by Liz Fraser? If so, then bonus.

Steve Gertz (sgertz), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

man the first half of this thread really DOES reaffirm my faith in ilm

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

i love that someone posted the 'van wilder' soundtrack. did you know the original cut of that movie was 143 minutes long?

maura (maura), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

what happened to the missing minutes? this is worse than the magnificent ambersons

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

i made the "hudson hawk" soundtrack a staff rec at my store for a joke and somebody bought it. i still haven't looked at the track listing, i'm afraid bruce willis will be on it.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha Jess, I never properly lambasted you for being young and foolish on this thread!

Dan (Crow OST Is Awesome) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Anything with "No Rain" or "You Get What You Give" on it can't be all bad.

any movie with "no rain" in it (and i mean IN IT, not merely on the soundtrack or hidden away in the end credits) is classic and worthy of any award you can throw at it.

bob abernethy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

i still say THE BEACH is way way worse. made me actually sick. seriously just thinking about it upsets me.

I hope that mid 90s rock never gets a hip revival. Actually, I kind of do.

flkflk, Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Every generation's music has got to have its detractors. Imagine a not-so-distant future where 16-year-olds upchuck over the notion of a Franz Ferdinand or Sufjan Stevens while their parents protest, "Hey, kids, that's when music was REAL."

Terrible Cold (Terrible Cold), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh, like they're not doing that now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)
