i always forget what a bizarre vocalist eugene is

it's like if al johnson from us maple was an MMA fighter

through the first couple of songs, he sort of reminds me of a drawn-out version of the phone calls from Black Christmas

Seeing him performing with Merzbow a couple of weekends ago was awesome, yet the Oxbow Orchestra was even weirder - dressed up to the point he announced “You don’t know how much I have to restrain myself in keeping my penis in my pants”.

when i saw them, he kept his underwear on but definitely...um...achieved half-wood

i talked with him after the show cuz he was bunking at a friend's house, he was really nice and i was just chatting so i said, where are you guys headed next, and he said, matter of factly, "well i gotta go back to san francisco to be in an orgy"

The first time I saw them was a complete shock to me, as I knew nothing about them and they were playing in a tent with blackout curtains hung at the community festival in Bristol. Word must have spread round really quickly that there was a muscly, well hung black guy playing with himself on stage because after about 3 songs the tent was full of middle-aged women with their fingers in their ears trying to kid themselves they were at the Chippendales or something.

This was maybe 10 years ago, I should add. An Evil Heat had just come out so that's, what, 2002? 2003?

yeah my mate put them on round the same time in Cardiff, which was '02. Eugene found a bagpipe player busking on the street and convinced him to come into the venue and perform just before their set

didn't V/vm play that festival in Bristol as well? no wonder budgets get slashed

Oh aye, V/vm was hilarious. People really had no idea what was going on. V/vm then came back to the Cube for the Christmas party later in the year and gave out raffle prizes like used advent calendars. Ah, happy days.
