hay everybody, this album is really really good

i kinda don't like the re-do of candles in the sun, seems like it wouldn't even make sense if you didn't know the ADC version

thank you, i was starting to feel like the only person here who sees that version as a downgrade and a bum note for the album

yeah i feel the same way

the rest of this album is ridiculously good though

I feel equally blah about both versions. It would have been the weakest song on the album either way.

also this album taught me how to spell kaleidoscope correctly and for that, miguel, i thank you

i like how simple, loose and reverb-y his guitar playing is, kind of a wildcard element in the sound

I thought he played more guitar but "Pussy is Mine" is the only song on which no one else gets credit.

oh ha, i should have hedged with "the" instead of "his" but i had assumed it was him...

the version of the album i downloaded has these really loud rave synths all over and are all tagged "remixed by sh0rty" :-(

My least favorite song is "Where's the Fun in Forever?" by far. I actually kind of like teh album version of "Candles in the Sun" better than the ADC version, the album version is appropriately rejigged as an Album Closer that works really well, throbs with this "important statement" vibe that isn't in-your-face or preachy, also I really like the hazier feel, and those drum fills when he says "heros often get SHOT" are amazing.

i also think the john lennon interview at the end of the adc is a little obvious

strong yolo imagery in beyond good & evil

i love "where's the fun in forever?", it feels so low-key and detached without actually losing its anthemic qualities. vocal arrangements are awesome, so's the steam-train rhythm and i the bit where the bass drops out and alicia and the handclaps come in >>>>>>>>

"pussy is mine" works oddly well as a tossed-off trifle at that point in the album, hard to hate. i guess "adorn" really is my least favourite on the album

"Where's the fun..." is great imo, in my top 5 on the album

"The Thrill" is the one I skip.

if i skip any it's "use me" & "don't look back" cuz sometimes i'm not in the mood for bombastic stadium rock

half the album is bombastic stadium rock tho.

"use me" is amazing and not really very bombastic imo

if i'm not in the mood for "use me" and "do you..." i'm not in the mood for miguel, or life, or anything - those two are THE songs on the album for me

oh i agree that "use me" is one of the very best songs on the album, sometimes i don't feel like hearing it tho

"Use Me" is the record's most purely immmersive sound experience imo.

yeah add "how many drinks?" to those two for me, lex, and i'd agree with you

and "arch and point"

his falsetto on "use me" is just...vertiginous

love the tangent about "bohemian rhapsody" indirectly inspiring "where's the fun" in the spotify commentary

only skippers are "where's the fun" and "candles in the sun", and even the latter i can't muster up much hate for. for shame at skipping "thrill"!

when i cherrypick from this album it's usually

don't look back > use me > do you... > where's the fun in forever? > arch & point > ...all > gravity

"kaleidoscope dream" and "the thrill" are the ones that hit the spot when i'm in the mood, but i'm not always in the mood

"where's the fun" in forever is def the one song that seemed slight to me first few times around that i now thing is 10/10

From "Use Me" through to "Arch & Point" defines the album for me, I often only listen to that sequence on repeat.

i wouldn't say "bombastic" but i do think the more desperate/cathartic/blood'n'guts miguel gets on this album, the better

Had been thinking "Adorn" might have a good shot at EOY glory but it seems like everyone has their own personal favourite Miguel song.

"Kaleidoscope Dream" has an insinuating chorus -- a real earworm. I'll catch myself singing it in the kitchen and shit.

"Don't Look Back", "Use Me", "The Thrill", and "Arch & Point" totally are, and even "Where's The Fun In Forever" and "Candles In The Sun" lean in that direction for at least part of their durations
