Which of them? The whole EP is great imo. But I'm assuming you mean Cleaning Out My Closet? It is pretty incredible yeah.

it's interesting that she chose that eminem song, too - explicitly linking herself to hip-hop's confessional tradition (which is kinda...niche, certainly at such a personal level?) but also an artist who frequently used sexual violence as a punchline

Not only that, the Eminem song is all righteous narcissism - and her song is about having your sense of self shattered. She totally turns the tables on the "male" songs on Classikz - Her Bitch Bad is about how it affects a young boy to see his father beat up his mother, etc. It feels like a much needed intervention.

I agree with UMS. Rap music these days sucks ass and is shitty. I even have a little joke where I call rap music, Crap music. It's humourous, but there's truthfulness within the humour also. Well, peace.

Q.Were there artists who were important to you when you made that decision?
A.Jason Mraz. Train — I love Train. The New Radicals. Paramore. Bob Dylan. Their artistic expression and emotion via their work helped me a lot with my own.

gonna say it & i have nothing but love for sasha but yo, ppl really want her to be a lot more than she is huh?
like, in the kitty pryde era i'm not gonna be mad that someone behind a song as dope as 'tatted' can get press love, but ppl are kinda going OTT with it.
― fanute da croupier (D-40), Thursday, 1 November 2012 14:35 (thirteen years ago)
almost everyone's opinion of almost every female rapper is suspect these days imo
― some dude, Thursday, 1 November 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)
it's a world of sterling clovers now
She's basic as hell as a rapper, I think everyone knows that. But she also seems to be part of this kinda new thing where these girl rappers just do what the hell they wanna do and don't care too much about what the guys will think. I mean, a non-cynical rap love duet album over hard trap beats? How can you not love that?
― you killed my cousin back in '94 - FUCK YO TRUCE! (longneck), Thursday, 1 November 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)
what i liked about her was just that she was trying to make dope songs instead of being some artsy presentation tumblr piece and thats basically what i still like, im not mad at it. i havent heard the new tape yet.
― fanute da croupier (D-40), Thursday, 1 November 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)
Oh I agree. She doesn't seem self-conscious at all and that's really refreshing. Who is making too much out of her and how, though? I haven't been following the hype.
