So whichever GNR thread has been revived most recently becomes receptacle for all things GNR? Whatevs. I can work with that. Though I just assumed that cheeky thread title meant it was about Axl specifically, or "Welcome" specifically.

Alright, no biggie. But since you posted a vid of Axl desperately attempting to sing his way through "Welcome..", I thought it would interest you that this particular video has been discussed in that partiular thread for a few days now.

Been listening to Appetite a bit lately. Nonbelievers, I think if you're willing to listen with new ears, you'll find a phenomenal album of surprising complexity and quality. I think there's only one song that doesn't completely kick ass ("anything goes"). The riffs are unstoppable.

I really don't think appetite would rate any higher in people's unbiased minds than say a motley crue record. (I personally like Mr. Brownstone better than Dr. Feelgood, but this is all stripper music, basically)

I don't want to see strippers dance to "Mr. Brownstone".

As a huge fan of stripper music I can tell you in my unbiased stripper music mind that Motley Crue doesn't have an album with more than 3 or 4 good songs on it and Appetite has 10.

3 or 4 solid stripper tracks sounds right for appetite. welcome to the jungle, paradise city, mr. brownstone. rocket queen kind of overstays its welcome and sweet child o' mine's lyrics appear to be about pubes, so those two are kind of iffy for the 4th.

the song i feel least happy about on my '80s rock ballot is "Sweet Child O' Mine" while I believe Axl was having a genuine, tender moment, I just can't get over the knowledge that Slash couldn't have given less of a fuck.

yeah initially i thought "well i can enjoy it FOR slash knocking off such a solid hook even while rolling his eyes at steven adler" but recently the tale has harshed my buzz

i used to hear stories about Slash hating "Sweet Child" or coming up with the riff as a joke but then in his memoir and interviews have never seen him expressing any negative opinions of the song so i've started to wonder if it was an urban legend (xpost)

According to Rose, the video was to depict an Asian woman carrying a baby into a foreign land, only to discover at the end that the child was dead and filled with heroin. This concept was rejected by Geffen Records.

wikipedia credits the "slash made the riff as a joke, then Axl went 'aw that would go well with my love poem" bit to Duff in an '88 hit parader article, though links to some foreign "meanings behind songs" site. xpost
