Anytime.

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

I really hope the Keef album is this year's Flockaveli. And I mean almost 2 million views for "Love Sosa" video on YouTube in 5 days? That's buzz.

I mean, when my good friend, who likes basically Kanye/Drake/Big Sean/Tyga/etc latches onto this song and then comes to ME and is like "Have you heard of this Chief Keef guy?" that's a pretty good barometer for me of something special happening.

king louie riel (rennavate), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:02 (thirteen years ago)

also i think i like "love sosa" more than "i don't like"

king louie riel (rennavate), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:07 (thirteen years ago)

me 2 but i feel like that might be kanye's fault

fanute da croupier (D-40), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like it's always kanye's fault

king louie riel (rennavate), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

that said i cant abide this 'the next flockaveli' talk b/c there's something abt waka's limitations granting him a weird kind of consistency b/c it was so easy for him to fill his lane & low expectations, he didn't have a 3 mill. deal or anything like that. but also just musically

aka it remains to be seen if keef can translate irl buzz to actual $$$ i wd think

fanute da croupier (D-40), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

i would bet keef makes a more flawed record tbh, but that the highs might strike a lil more ... deeply? on keef's. i mean think about it, there's something to the fact that waka could talk about some real shit & a lot of folks would basically reduce it to "hes like hip hop punk rock"-type shit, i'm not sure folks ever real gave waka much credit so there wasn't the same bond ... keef is like waka meets meek mill or something

fanute da croupier (D-40), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

anyway i'm just cautious in general about these kind of 'its the new [x]' type statements in general

fanute da croupier (D-40), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, I only call it that because I think it will be an uncomprimising album by an artist representing something new, yielding a great batch of singles, and an album that will gain a large following and sell a good deal but will also turn out to be divisive, with all the real-hiphop people complaining a lot about the artist's lack of talent, yet it will be seen as a milestone for years to come by people who care about such things. Nothing deeper than that.

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

I am expecting at least three or four boring songs though.

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:27 (thirteen years ago)

I am expecting at least three for four more boring posts of your Chief Keef 5 Day Forecast

my mansplain songz (some dude), Tuesday, 23 October 2012 23:49 (thirteen years ago)

there's a chance of a banger on thursday followed by an ode to the homies on friday, but things rebound on the weekend for the trap party jams

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 00:00 (thirteen years ago)

lmao

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 00:05 (thirteen years ago)

there's a Drake front coming through but it might break into clouds of YCMB guest spots by early next week

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 00:06 (thirteen years ago)

i said that flockaveli thing on twitter... i wasn't necessarily talking about sales or overall impact or whatever just that it seems like it's gonna be an album full of bangers of a specific type that works over the course of a full album in spite of itself

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 00:17 (thirteen years ago)

If only Triple F Life had been a better album we wouldn't be discussing this in the first place. As it is... I need my fix. • scratches •

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 05:53 (thirteen years ago)

Did Future's mixtape get put back? It was supposed to drop earlier this week yeah?

pandemic, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 12:48 (thirteen years ago)

ya it did

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 12:51 (thirteen years ago)

cheers mate. Bit rich of me to be bummed out by that considering he's already released 2 records this year. Oh well.

pandemic, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

ehh obviously we all anticipate and speculate but i feel like it's best to shy away from pre-reviewing the emerging narrative around what an album seems to be shaping up as based on leaks

So Feva just dropped 75 mixtapes on datpiff? Will these rappers never learn?

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

That KP Montana, Durk & Louie is tough btw.

well sure. if i'm wrong then no one remembers, if i'm right that i get to brag about being prophetic. isn't that how things work?

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

Meek leaked. Not bad but not very exciting either. Somewhere in the 6/10 - 7/10 range after one spin.

really looking forward to digging into this

i'm only 4 songs in, but sequencing on the meek album seems awful.

sisilafami, Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

running bet as i start the meek how many tracks will feature I Got Serious Shit To Say tinkly piano keys is 5

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

weird transition halfway through the opener...

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

lol i love I Got Serious Shit To Say tinkly piano keys

burrito smalls (some dude), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)

I like the slow tinkly and serious ones the best, probably. The ones with Ross don't sound too convincing. And how is MJB on this one too? lol
I miss Burn though I hear it's on the deluxe.

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

MJB hook has been the Industry Seal of Approval for like 18 years straight now, how did you never get that memo

burrito smalls (some dude), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

MJB hook has been Signal To Skip Track for the last 10 years straight now for me

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

that too

burrito smalls (some dude), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

When was the last time she was on three of the Most Important Rap Releases of the Year though? 1996?

O-Jah Da Lionmane (longneck), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)

2006

burrito smalls (some dude), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

the song she did on the Nas album was surprisingly one of the only good songs on that record!

i love that part

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

i do too, it's just literally the musical transition is odd, but it's supposed to be jarring i think

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:00 (thirteen years ago)

i essentially wanted to turn the whole album off after "tony story 2"

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

"believe it" with ross is the best track on there after "amen" and the intro... the only keepers, really

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

album is def missing some tracks like "burn" or "A1 everything" or "house party" or "don't panic" that are just fun bangers

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

i like 'layup' or i did at the listening sesh anyway

fanute da croupier (D-40), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

How does "House Party" not make this?!

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

best use of twinkly piano keys so far is on "maybach curtains"

the ones in the back that go DEEDLE DEEDLE DEEDLEDUUUUH... but fuck a john legend... the track's kinda whack overall tho, although i like nas on it.

also how many times has nas said "al green while moms cleanin" ... too many, i feel.

king louie riel (rennavate), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

"house party" is of another era already

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 24 October 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)
