Ha, definitely thought of the band first for a long time when I saw the other thread. Just listened to "Chinatown" - is the vocalizing at the end supposed to be reminiscent of "Satellite of Love"?

it's no junior dad, but it's pretty good.
tho dean and lou harmonizing at the end is maybe not the best idea.
― tylerw, Friday, 19 October 2012 17:27 (thirteen years ago)
Is it as bad as Pete and Lou or Elvis C. and Lou or ... oh wait.
― Cosmic Fopp (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 19 October 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)
lou is a tough dude to harmonize with. though i understand there are lulu outtakes where lou and hetfield do some everly brothers numbers.

Eh. Like Luna a lot, but the band lost so much after Stan and Justin left. Those first three albums are great. The rest is like one big, long album I only want to listen to once, though enjoy while it's on.

Agreed
― Οὖτις, Wednesday, 29 October 2014 13:34 (eleven years ago)

― tylerw, Thursday, 12 February 2015 17:45 (eleven years ago)
heard an upcoming, very good record by a band called houndstooth and it had a little luna-ish flavor. more bands should sound like luna imho.

i am surprised I missed a show in 2002!
i think this is the last show I saw http://www.fullofwishes.co.uk/database/show/2001-06-14-luna-middle-east-cambridge-ma-usa/

Saw them in Glasgow on Sunday night, hadn't seen them live before and really enjoyed it. Setlist was similar to above (http://db.fullofwishes.co.uk/luna/shows/2015-08-02-luna-cca-glasgow-uk.html), flowed really nicely and I thought the Britta/Lee rhythm section was great - felt I actually noticed the baselines more live than I do on record. Now listening back through the albums chronologically.

So great to see Stan with the band.
― kwhitehead, Wednesday, 14 October 2015 17:43 (ten years ago)
he really is a great drummer -- like the perfect mix of charlie watts and moe tucker.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 14 October 2015 17:45 (ten years ago)
If Stan (and Justin!) were back I'd see the band in a heartbeat tomorrow night. As it stands ... dunno.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 October 2015 13:42 (ten years ago)
I didn't go to the show last weekend because I was sick. Super bummed. Hopefully will have another chance.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 15 October 2015 13:53 (ten years ago)
bummer! yeah, no idea what their overall plans are in terms of continuing. don't think they're planning on making new music. i definitely prefer the demeski/harwood era of the band, but i gotta say that they sound amazing here: http://www.nyctaper.com/2015/10/luna-october-7-2015-bowery-ballroom-flacmp3streaming/maybe better than ever?
― tylerw, Thursday, 15 October 2015 14:11 (ten years ago)
Ha, they might be the perfect example of a band served just fine by live recordings. They're not the most charismatic bunch.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 October 2015 15:48 (ten years ago)
band just tweeted that "this is not a farewell tour" so they seem to have at least general plans for continuing to play live post-2015... would love to see them again.
― tylerw, Thursday, 15 October 2015 16:09 (ten years ago)
I'll wait til they play some place that is not the House of Blues, then.

An entire interview in which the words "Damon" and "Naomi" are left unsaid. Amazing quote: "The trio forces everyone to work, there is something cool about it, especially live; all of you have to make noise constantly. But I think most of the great bands (especially in the live scenario) are four or five people."
I'm glad Dean finally acknowledges Woody Allen as a major influence. This is actually a perfect pairing of interviewer and interviewee, to an extent that we rarely see these days, and one of the best interviews that I've read in recent memory.

Saw them last weekend for what must have been at least the 10th time but the first since 2001. They were really amazing. Covered The Cure's Fire in Cairo during one encore and came back out again to close with Tugboat.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 18:09 (ten years ago)
Fire in Cairo! They didn't do that one during their original run, did they?

"The word nostalgia confuses me," he says. "I've been thinking about that. This book I was reading, the author broke it down into the Greek: 'nostalgia,' meaning the pain of returning home. It's both exciting and it's slightly painful, too, and so it's pleasure and sadness. And that's kind of what we try to do with the music, too."
