yeah, this could be the best of her 'big songs' she usually closes albums with. love the melodic ornaments.

Is Begin Again the only Chapman production we have from RED, or is State of Grace him also? I'm glad she hasn't ditched him - they work well together.
― twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 22:31 (thirteen years ago)
listening to state of grace. is this some generic pop rock song or what
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 00:51 (thirteen years ago)
now "i knew you were in trouble". yet another generic pop rock song. dammit will there be any country or at least something that's as catchy as "we were never going back" in this album?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

Guys, guys, no one's in trouble here. Let's be cool.
― sorcery is in the gutter (how's life), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 10:53 (thirteen years ago)

― lex pretend, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)
"Golden age" feels like an important phrase for this album
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 19:20 (thirteen years ago)
so it turns out that the dude from snow patrol is ACTUALLY ON THE ALBUM, and it's not even this song!
― lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 17 October 2012 19:21 (thirteen years ago)
Let's not discuss that ;_;
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)
i don't even understand the logic
she already has ed sheeran to get more uk success, surely one awful voice is enough. nobody cares about snow patrol
― uberweiss, Wednesday, 17 October 2012 20:18 (thirteen years ago)
maybe she actually likes them

moment in opening of "22" where she does not say "it feels like a perfect night to dress up like hitler" most disappointing moment of year so far

Kate Bush is the only artist to make a batshit-awesome song with a Hitler reference so

ofl i actually thought this album was almost entirely terrible but i'm not gonna get strident about it yet

cannot even begin to understand your perspective
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:28 (thirteen years ago)
the big ol slabs of edgeguitar on all the Major Ones clogged my arteries p quick and she's way worse at ke$ha's hedonist triumphalism on 22 than she was at hayley williams' envious moralizing on better than revenge and the lyrics i heard were unspecial (with the exception of all too well which i got misty on and the title track which is now the most tasteless thing on the shortlist for the end credits of my stalin biopic) and the one that had snow patrol on it deserved to
― a hauntingly unemployed american (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:49 (thirteen years ago)
much luv for taylor as always tho!
― a hauntingly unemployed american (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:50 (thirteen years ago)
Pretty sure I'll end up liking this more than Speak Now yeah.
Feel she touches more on her classic craft here than on that one. On "I Almost Do" , "Treacherous" and "All Too Well" she blends the s/t and Fearless styles while successfully allowing herself to do some different things sonically and vocally. On SN the attempts at renewal felt more experimental.
The tearjerkers are pretty irresistible as well.
So far.
Martin tracks really stand out as something different than the rest (except 22)
― abcfsk, Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:54 (thirteen years ago)
don't know how i feel about the snow patrol dude showing up halfway through this thing
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:58 (thirteen years ago)
stephen thomas erlewine compared "sad beautiful tragic" to mazzy star which is kind of right on
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 05:59 (thirteen years ago)
All Too Well tho, damn.
― abcfsk, Thursday, 18 October 2012 06:16 (thirteen years ago)
worst t. swift lyrics ever on "starlight" y/n
nice tune tho

― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:00 (thirteen years ago)
i guess i can say that "all too well" was my OMG favourite on one listen now
the duets are both dreary and unnecessary but the rest is so good that it doesn't matter
i loved "22"
how has no one mentioned THE LANA DEL REY ONE yet
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:44 (thirteen years ago)
not totally sure which one you think that is
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:45 (thirteen years ago)
"the lucky one"
the one which is basically britney's "lucky" except about a girl who transformed herself into a 60s starlet and then there are LYNCHIAN GUITARS in the second verse
and then there is another amazing twist and it's prob not LDR after all but until the twist i was seriously thinking that
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:48 (thirteen years ago)
yeah my immediate association with that one was "lucky" and there's so much ghostly guitar reverb on this record that it's hard for me to pin it to lynch particularly
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:50 (thirteen years ago)
i don't have my notes with me but iirc the first seven tracks blew me away and after that a few inessential songs creep in. get rid of sheeran and lightbody and there wasn't a song i actually disliked though.
"we are never..." - in the context of the album (ie nothing else is like it) i'm far more ok with it and its vapidity; it's kind of like, you have to actually parody yourself in order to move on? i'm sure there must be other examples of artists doing this.
"stay stay stay" is great, it's the only out-and-out country moment really.
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:51 (thirteen years ago)
xp there was def a really obvious lynchian MOMENT - am just going on memory from the playback
am going to have to wrestle with my bf's ridiculous stereo system to listen today, gah
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:52 (thirteen years ago)
"22" is "15" sequel, yeah? (she said yeah.)
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:53 (thirteen years ago)
i think the snow patrol dude song would be really good w/o the snow patrol dude
oh well
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:54 (thirteen years ago)
yeah i thought that too!
― lex pretend, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:55 (thirteen years ago)
I couldn't identify a single snow patrol song so he's just a dude voice to me.
― abcfsk, Thursday, 18 October 2012 07:55 (thirteen years ago)
also i said on twitter earlier that "i almost do" and "we are never ever getting back together" are kind of the same song in very small ways, feel like their placement together is way deliberate and it's awesome
