Jazz is a dead language because no one wants to address unspeakable feelings that we all have.

But almost everyone has their culture mediated by the same three corporations now. That's the beginning of a dystopian sci fi novel
my choice

call me dat ishmael. I live in FUTURESTATE. all of our culture is mediated by universal, Warner bros, and Kraft foods.
already hooked
― i've grown accustomed to her face tat (m bison), Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:22 (thirteen years ago)
I am pretty surprised that there haven't been bands named 'weyland yutani' or 'omni consumer products' ... yet
― 乒乓, Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:22 (thirteen years ago)
Not being into mediocre gibberish made by people with nothing to say shouldn't sound so radical.
― some dude, Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:23 (thirteen years ago)
It really does drive home what a small and insular community with a massively inflated sense of self worth indie rock is. Every time some one starts something like this, time stops because somene decided to engage with THE CULTURE for more than 10 minutes
― Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 14 October 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)
The modern music press is governed by antidepressants and student loan debt.

Its the same thing that happened with Brooklyn Vegan, @discographies, Carles & Shapiro.
Dude engages with THE INTERNET about indie rock and it's relationship with THE INTERNET, ILX blows gasket, alt-weeklies interview him about how they REALLY FEEL about music, job offers happen because someone managed to BEAT THE SYSTEM and get XXX followers off the grid, and everyone moves on to MOLECULAR GASTRONOMY HULK or whatever.
But by all means keep posting about this. This will be different

Another sad American youngster waking up to the fakeness of his culture, thinking he can dig beneath the surface fakeness to find the realness. But when he gets down there all he'll find is cheetoes. The whole country is built on cheetoe infill.

whoa a lot of people i know are following this guy!they are all music writers and jazz musicians
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)
of course they're music writers
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)
a couple noise dudes too.
Perennial hand-wringing and P4K finger-pointing is So Tedious. I like this guy's anti-capitalism slant, though, that's fun.
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:30 (thirteen years ago)
@hateindierock did that move where he followed like 600 accounts, mostly music writers with many followers, then unfollowed them all after acquiring enough buzz/retweets/followers of his own. Kinda ironic, for somebody who decries cynicism
― Evan R, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:31 (thirteen years ago)
Well, he's a) calling out people for anti-intellectualism and b) has chosen Twitter as his medium. PLOT HOLES
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)
it's a good thing punk rock won
― reggie (qualmsley), Sunday, 14 October 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)
Hmm, the big and recurrent fallacy in this perennial shit-show is decrying of a lack of underground. I don't know what underground these losers are missing. Everywhere I look there are great bands and great records who have not enough fans to monetize anything but garage shows and freebies, I don't get it
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)
they have a tweet about how the underground is mostly local now.
― scott seward, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)
i read it.
local cults, i think they called it.
wow! you just can't win with this guy. I wonder what band he was in

keep local bands weird
― --bob marley (lag∞n), Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)
i actually read this WHOLE thing the other day. i a have no idea why. talk about making indie rock sound sad:

― scott seward, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)
you'd think they were trying to start a farm worker's union or something instead of just occasionally make canadian snooze rock.
― scott seward, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)
and i think a trip to haiti is in order for those guys:
"Montreal's a place that's always losing its charm. It's a corrupt city in a corrupt province, where somehow the light rings loudly anyhow. So many crazy plans hatched in spite of, so many minor miracles. The dust of this place is caked into our scalps and beneath our nails – there would be no band if it weren't for this lovely rotten town."
― scott seward, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)
the dirty stinking dust of motreal. mon dieu!
― scott seward, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)
But now we all live in harder times, now a whole lot of bands react to the current heaviness by privileging the party times, like some weird Scientology will-to-power bullshit, hit that hi-hat with a square's fist until we all make it to heaven, until Sunday morning's bringdown. Self-conscious good vibes like love-handles poking through some 22-year-old's American Apparel T-shirt at some joint where you can only dance once you pay a $10 cover charge just to listen to some internet king's iPod.
haha good grief
― dell (del), Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)
I for one applaud them for successfully monetizing about six or seven different tropes of DIY/punk rock aesthetic/anti-nationalism/"classical music"/"metal"/"mystery politix" and have done so in a way that has mostly benefitted their listeners and other folks in their city and my city and possibly yours, but yeah.
― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)
I mean, I <3 them but yeah.
they haven't benefited anyone from my city
― iatee, Sunday, 14 October 2012 16:37 (thirteen years ago)
We're all of us born beneath the weight of piss-poor governance. It's a miracle that so many of us make it through our teens. Politics is for politicians and all our politicians have the whiff of death to them, it's why they wear so much perfume and cologne, it's why they wear brightly coloured scarves and ties, just to distract from the pallor of their skin. So many of us just want to live away from that stench – we stagger towards the light awkwardly, astonished that so many of us are staggering together thusly, amen.

We were poor but we were happy. We knew the value of things. We never wondered about the value of valuing things.
It's a shambles.
