remember what happened last time you roped other people into doing the gruntwork on a poll where you and only you get to set the arbitrary rules of inclusion and exclusion? (xpost)

a little? those threads were long, just feel like this is gonna be way more normal than like 27 nitzer ebb songs and random metal & punk stuff results which was p cool and interesting imo

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

is keith hudson, lee perry and prince far i taking it too far....??

stirmonster, Friday, 5 October 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

you could've looked at the 80s noms and said, ha pretenders and van halen good luck losers, but they came in at #351 and #127 respectively

xp

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 5 October 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

You can have Funkadelic but not Shuggie Otis? I am not bitching but I just need to understand what is the line here? Is it just subjective to one person or are there rules ?

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Friday, 5 October 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

maybe the rules are "could chuck eddy qualify it as metal by some tortured logic?"

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)

there are rules and they are subjective to one person

space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)

Nazareth - Loud n' Proud (at least listen to them invent doom metal with their cover of dylan's 'ballad of hollis brown')

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

I thought rush invented doom metal

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

im asking people to stick to a heavier kind of rock like we did with the 80s poll. Though some really weird outthere music will be accepted (like nurse with wound)

xp

Third World War - II

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

alot of miles should totally make the cut but alot of stuff here is rock but nowhere near RAWKS enough imo to fit spirit of 80s poll, carducci-eddy aesthetic good guidepost (though obv chuck eddy hates alot of stuff on 80s poll eg big black, slayer, maiden). my guiding question would be is most of the entire album (not just one or two cuts like after the gold rush) composed of tracks that you could imagine flying down the road in yr t-top firebird screaming 'OMG THIS FUCKING RAWKS'? could you bring it to a friend and go 'dude you like stooges/sabbath/early funkadelic/pere ubu/alice cooper/zz top/boston? you should check this out'? does it rock harder than springsteen? some neil young yes, some neil young no. i love elvis costello but no, blood and chocolate is probably his most rawking album and it would've been out of place between candlemass and skinny puppy. i also suggested loosing anti rolling stone canonicity but heavily restricting the aesthetic parameters. stones imo the only ones i'd admit are sticky fingers, exile, and some girls. the others don't rawk enough or aren't pure enough rawk imo. only bowie i'd admit is man who sold the world, ziggy, and aladdin sane. no dylan qualifies imo. nor any beatles related stuff, even though 'jet' does rawk. there's already been an ilx 70s poll and million other 70s polls elsewhere, this doesn't need to be this. totally trusting ag to make the judgments here and would hope errs on the side of strictness, esp since there is so much to choose from in the 70s. no turds in the punch bowl.

balls, Friday, 5 October 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:20 (thirteen years ago)

1 Stones + 1 Pink Floyd = 33% of Rolling Stone Canon.

farte blanche (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 5 October 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

ok. from reading the recent posts i'm reckoning this poll is jamaicanist so i'll leave out the lee perry even though i frequently fly down the road in my t-top firebird listening to it screaming 'OMG THIS FUCKING RAWKS'?

stirmonster, Friday, 5 October 2012 18:24 (thirteen years ago)
