― Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:34 (thirteen years ago)
I can't defend it, except to say I really like "Pets"...
― Frobisher the (Viceroy), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:34 (thirteen years ago)
you know, despite the fear will you f*ckers will ban me for life from ilm, i suspect there is a strong chance that i have not heard a single album that features in the top 10.

― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
kidding, they're all great, and all on Spotify or your favourite online retailer, buy 'em all and rock the fuck out!
― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)
Well I've never listened to any Sonic Youth or Husker Du album all the way through. It feels good to confess one's sins...
― Frobisher the (Viceroy), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)
MARK YOU MUST LISTEN TO ATOMIZER/RICH MAN'S EIGHT TRACK IMMEDIATELY
― Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
I think the winner will be Sister. Sister Double Happiness, that is.
― DJ Mooncup (NickB), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
still can't believe Debbie Gibson is walking away with this
― Technology of the Big Muff (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
Mark would love Atomizer for sure

spotify is banned at work, so dont have any chance to use this sonic oracle.
that said, i do have a few iconoclastic SY albums in the archive, so who knows ... i may actually break the top 10 cherry
xpost : i used to have atomizer on tape .. and loved it, but never had urge to sort it out for the cd age ..

― Sock Puppets II (Mr Andy M), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)
i am so staying up for the #1.
well, that and i need to finish this bottle of wine.
― mark e, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)
didn't care about this when it came out, it was in constant rotation for about eight months during '91/'92, and then I never went back to it. title track and 59 Times the Pain the best, iirc. amphetamine exuberance & etc.
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)
Celebrated Summer is possibly my favourite song ever, certainly my favourite Du song.
― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)
ok do you want 1 & 2 together?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)
but that'll ruin the surprise!
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)
okay, no surprise left. just hit us w/it.
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

So I'm tired and just throwing out random thoughts now but - if you think of Black Flag, Minutemen, Meat Puppets & Husker Du as the 4 bands that really put SST on the map, HD would the be the band that I'd associate most closely and directly with 'rock' as such. (Not to say that by itself makes them the best, Minutemen probably my fave if I had to choose).
― Sock Puppets II (Mr Andy M), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
SST's entire aesthetic project revolved around pushing & re-inventing rock.
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:54 (thirteen years ago)
but Husker Du were prob. the most pop-oriented (and maybe trad.-rock in that sense), so I get yr. point.
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)
I don't think I've ever heard NDR all the way through, although I love Zen Arcade and "Eight Miles High" and a lot of Warehouse (esp the Mould songs).
Wow, so Sister vs Atomizer.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)
I've also never heard all of Atomizer, although I've owned SAF for 12 years or so.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)
AG hinted Sister would take it, iirc.
xp
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)
been digging the rollout so far, w/ nothing much to bitch & whine abt, save for the relatively low placement of a few BIG ROCK ALBUMS - but can't say I'm too surprised @ that.
So I guess I need to check out Candlemass, then?
― Broney, Pt. 1 (Pillbox), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)
Come on, don't do #1 and #2 together.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)
<3 that Streetcleaner placed so high btw!
Yeah, I listened to it for the first time because of it and quite enjoyed it.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

― Mark G, Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)
Same guy who did Jesu, right?
xpost re Godflesh
but Husker Du were prob. the most pop-oriented (and maybe trad.-rock in that sense), so I get yr. point.Yeah trad-rock sounds right, also the sensibility of 'hard rock' that you've been talking about a lot, it's to do with that thick guitar sound they had.
― Sock Puppets II (Mr Andy M), Thursday, 4 October 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)
There is a difference of 333 points between #1 and #2
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)
Same guy who did Jesu, right? - yeah, Justin Broadrick. He was also briefly in Head of David & Napalm Death.
