this poll is giving me a headache, in a good way
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 October 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)
Very surprised that Daydream Nation didn't make the top 10. Guessing both Evol and Sister made it though.
― Internet Alan, Thursday, 4 October 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)
OK, if Evol is #1, ILM has my heart forever.

― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
It's funny: these polls are the most I've ever felt in tune with general ILM taste.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:12 (thirteen years ago)
wouldn't say this poll represents general ILM taste but I know what you mean
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)
No, I get that but even a subset of ILM
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)
I'll de-lurk to say this poll has been extremely awesome and damn all this metal I've never listened to before!
― p.j.b. (pj), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)
i realise this adds nothing to the thread (which is a year killer AG bravo sir), but i have never even heard of saint vitus.
― mark e, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)
thanks guys
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)
Saint Vitus were an SST band. Wino joined on the Born Too Late album. He just rejoined them a few years ago and they released a really really good album this year.

― ~ (Matt #2), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:24 (thirteen years ago)
Amazing, amazing record; listened to it for the first time in ages a few weeks ago.
― Clarke B., Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
I've never gotten st vitus, and not for lack of trying. heard 'em back then, and as their influence grew in later years kept checking in to see what I'd missed. also saw 'em on that reunion tour naomi peterson (RIP) put together back in '93. just never clicked.
― space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
All SST-related top 10 maybe?
Loose Nut, astoundingly surmounting the handicap of not being nominated.
― Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:26 (thirteen years ago)
atomizer was not on SST
― space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)
I'm embarrassed to say that You're Living... is something else I only first listened to after voting closed. Really love it though.

"You're Living ..." is the only Dinosaur Jr. I find essential, as much as I like some of the rest of it. Mascis's solos sound so much more vital to me in the context of these songs, for some reason. Just explosions of feeling and righteousness. On other albums the songs seem more like vehicles for the solos, on "Living ..." they are woven into the journey. I will never tire of "The Lung" no matter how many times I hear it.
― grandavis, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)
There isn't a single bad song on any of the first three records in the top ten so far... Damn!
― Clarke B., Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)
St Vitus was Wino's band before The Obsessed. Or something like that?
― Internet Alan, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)
I'm listening to You're Living All Over Me for the first time. It's fucking great.
Appetite For Destruction was my #1, sad to see it outside the top 10.
― nate woolls, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)
I have this mental block where I can't associate any of the songs with their titles on you're living all over me. besides the opener, closer, and "the lung", every time I listen to it is like the first time.
― space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
That recent remaster of 'You're Living . .' was a revelation. The CD I grew up with sounded murky as hell and didn't do the album any favours. Still it was the copy I fell in love with.
― Internet Alan, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:47 (thirteen years ago)
I never get sick of YLAOM or Bug either, for that matter.
― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:50 (thirteen years ago)
I've got an original vinyl pressing, it always sounded kind of murky until that remaster
xp

― Internet Alan, Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
I have it on vinyl when the were a mere Dinosaur . I am an old past it aunt. I mentioned up thread, that it was - still is - their best. It was a groundbreaking mesh at the time- it really was.As grandavis says, the solos actually contributed to the songs and haven't done since. In my opinion. The latest, for example is widdle , after upper fret wiggle. Boring.
― Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
I felt bad for not voting for this so it's nice to see it so high (re Jane's).
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 4 October 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck yeah on 'Nothing's Shocking' btw. Another album that recieved a recent remaster that polished it for the better. Sounded great to begin with though I admit.
