re. my Melvins call, i keep forgetting that this is an 80s poll. in fact i've defaulted a couple of times to the expectation that a whole bunch of 90s albums are going to start cropping up.

charlie h, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

hellhouse, that post was from the tracks poll -- i was referring more to how i think of SY as an albums band and loaded my tracks ballot up with singles by bands with radio hits. but whatever, blowhard, idgaf.

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, that Gun Club album packs a real punch.

charlie h, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

can someone please point me to a good youtube of the gun club

- this is a band i have often suspected i would love, but the lack of options via fopp et al, means i have never had the chance to dive in ..

mark e, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

i think it sounds like the sultans of ping f.c. 's "swamp blues" album

iglu ferrignu, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

Gun Club seem to have become fashionable again, at least over here in the UK. Bands like the Jim Jones Revue are constantly citing them as an influence.

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

^^^^ indeed. hence why i'd like to hear more ..

mark e, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:38 (thirteen years ago)

hellhouse, that post was from the tracks poll -- i was referring more to how i think of SY as an albums band and loaded my tracks ballot up with singles by bands with radio hits. but whatever, blowhard, idgaf.

then quit trolling the fucking poll.

Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:39 (thirteen years ago)

just kiss already

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

i'm trolling the albums poll because you're cherrypicking posts from the OTHER poll out of countext as evidence that i don't understand the poll? wtf is your problem? i've given AG a hard time here and there but he's been a good sport about it and has welcomed my contributions to the thread, and after all it's his fucking poll, not yours. all 5 SY albums are on my ballot btw.

lol xpost

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

no sweetcheeks, this:

this is hilariously rong!

is trolling. now can we kiss and make up? 'cause this is really fucking boring.

Hellhouse, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

oh hey this Gun Club album is pretty good

I think this is what I expected The Feelies to sound like when I blind-bought Only Life on a whim

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

Giving the Gun Club another go, could never really get into Jeffrey Lee's voice though tbh. Always get a few songs in and then wonder why I'm not listening to the Scientists instead.

DJ Mooncup (NickB), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

didn't expect any hot hellhouse/some dude action this morning but hey looky there

space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:51 (thirteen years ago)

i don't get what the beef is

iglu ferrignu, Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:52 (thirteen years ago)

Bender: Get a room, you two!
Man: We are in a room.
Bender: Then lose some weight!

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:53 (thirteen years ago)

you and me both, iglu

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:53 (thirteen years ago)

how about posting another album, AG?

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Thursday, 4 October 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

no beef. I'm done w/all SY-related beef. nothing to do now but sit around and wait f/the other four recs.

xp

I am 90 seconds into "I Will Dare" and I basically still despise this band in all its flaccid bullshit glory

DJP bringing the 80s cultural references, I am putting on leg warmers right now

space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 4 October 2012 14:00 (thirteen years ago)

one of the reasons I went so hard for Prince/The Time when I was growing up, besides them being balls-out awesome, is that the main competing choices from the Twin Cities music scene were The Replacements and Soul Asylum, and honestly fuck The Replacements and Soul Asylum

RIP The Suburbs, you should have been massive

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 4 October 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

so its not just jjj who hates them but dan too

booooo the Minneapolis 2!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 4 October 2012 14:03 (thirteen years ago)

another album that placed much higher on the all-genre 80s poll

i think the wacky spirit of this poll will undercut the more canonical choices a bit, which i'm cool with even if I put Let It Be as my #1

― da croupier,

If anyone prefers the all-genres 80s poll they can always run one after this. But I just wanted something different to showcase more ignored/unknown albums. plus it just seemed a bit more fun
