Funny that the vegemite grrrl calls anyone that hates manowar/king diamond/dio/priest/power metal 'false metal' but defends Hysteria!
Hysteria is good but is not their best album.

Pyromania is my favorite personally

I don't think I've ever gone as far as defending Hysteria in a metal context --- but for me it's an almost perfect album and a really really good crystallization of everything that Def Leppard were really good at. Fun, pop, sly but not dirty... as much trad metal as I love, I also love me a finely crafted pop song and Hysteria's full of them.

I would pick Pyromania ahead of Hysteria I think, but hey I love those first 4 albums

I'm really into albums that work as a whole entity, and not just a collection of songs. Hysteria's *crafted* really well - I can't listen to a single track off that album without immediately hearing the next track in my head or wanting to hear the whole album.

in fact, I'm listening to Hysteria right now :D

I like some of Billy Zoom's riffs but otherwise, I can't get into this band at all.

I actually prefer Wild Gift. I gave the #1 vote to Los Angeles by accident. If I had been paying more attention I would have had Los Angeles as #2 and Wild Gift as #1. (Sorry, X has gradually emerged as pretty much my favorite 80s rock band.)

X are awesome.

I agree that Pyromania > Hysteria, but I think we're in the minority AG...

X is a band that I love whenever a song of theirs plays but I still know nothing about and have heard very little. I should take this time to do my due diligence.

"Johnny Hit and Run Paulene" isn't bad, actually. I remember finding Under the Big Black Sun almost unlistenable though.

Never really got any further with them than a copy of See How We Are from the HMV bargain bin.

Yeah I still dig Los Angeles a lot. I've got a soft spot for band with dual/multiple lead vocalists generally.

Cop beating Hysteria is another small victory for goodness and light in this terrible world.

X is so weird, I dig 'em when I hear 'em but almost never put one of their records on. they got worse the farther they got from their punk roots imo. agree that under the big black sun is pretty cruddy w/ the exception of "hungry wolf" and "blue spark".

it's like they were a singles band trying to be taken seriously, if that makes any sense. when they're not playing one of the hits my interest drops to nil.

i have never been able to get into X. I should prob give them another try.

I love the way Exene & John Doe's vocals blend together in their harmonies... I mean, Exene has some killer pipes imo, but Doe has a really great tone to his voice that complements her style really well

Listening to the title track from Los Angeles now, I think this song might be where they really nailed the vibe they were so often going for - sort of revisiting the ~innocence~ of 50s r&r through this really jaded, decadent lens.
So I prob agree with Edward that with X the big well-known songs are the best (also love Nausea, White Girl, Adult Books, We're Desperate etc).

listened to cop the whole way through this afternoon for the first time in a long time at the recommend maximum volume. i feel cleansed.

maybe my fave Soundgarden. I dig Ultramega but LTL feels tighter somehow. I don't think I ever got over the whole black hole sun/not screaming Soundgarden. I grew into it but I still love the first 2 albums best

Its a pity people judge Soundgarden on Black Hole Sun. I hate that song nowbecause the video was constantly on mtv when cable tv first came to the UK. I did like it until then. Badmotorfinger is still their heaviest album but the 2 early albums in this poll are ace.

Yeah, the rest of Superunknown is awesome too. It drives me insane when people judge them based on that one ballad.

Kim Thayill will always rule. Hope I never hear Black Hole Sun again.

Badmotorfinger is my favourite though.

Badmotorfinger is probably the reason I got into doom. I needed more heavier slower songs like that.
