Definitely my fave album by them.

"Read it in Books" is a Teardrop Explodes cover isn't it?

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)

mmm yes I love this album

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)

Two of the few good performances at the last Pitchfork I attended a few years ago was The Jesus Lizard and Mission of Burma doing the entire Vs. album. Awesome.

^Meat Puppets used to be one of my 'eh, what's the big deal with these guys?' bands but they've crept up on me over time. I go back and forth over which I prefer between Up On The Sun & II though - UOTS prob has the better songs and better playing overall but I love the guitar sound they had on II.

chewed postcard to robert smith (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

My War and Damaged are definitely in, but I'm on the fence about Loose Nut. I don't see it being this high, but it's hard to imagine it missing the cut entirely. Cloud One is also a bit of a wild card considering the drubbing Live Skull has received.

Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:21 (thirteen years ago)

ok last one for tonight coming up

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

Hellhouse rides again. Black Flag bombed after My War. Without a doubt.

Same with the 'Pups. The first three (including s/t) sublime. Thereafter a decline.

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

Never really listened to any Meat Puppets or Missions of Burma.

I have and haven't listened to Killing Joke or This Heat for ages.

I can see myself having an 80's splurge on the back of this poll.

Internet Alan, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

in my head is weird & great

space dokken (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

I need to give In my head another go. They really did weird out on that one?
Originally bought on cassette
Still have it somewhere. Or was it chewed?
I have something to do this weekend now.
Search In my Head
Thanks Edward III.

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

^^^

yeah, In My Head was a late-inning rally. title track is classic IMO.

Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

the only other oddball rec on my list that might place is Cop, but I'm weighing whether its reputation is good enough to compensate f/its distinction as the noisiest (ie: most unpleasant) Swans rec.

Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 22:59 (thirteen years ago)

i'd guess that as filth made it, cop will be in there (in the 70s?). i think it sounds very pleasant; 'why hide' is almost a lullaby.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

Will start around 1-2pm I think.
Anyone late to the poll or catching up can still talk about the albums already in the 400-81.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

not much to talk about in the last 320 albums imo

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:11 (thirteen years ago)

nail has one of the greatest production jobs of the 80s. wish he had done an entire album of "pigdom come" themes.

I used to spend summers with my grandparents in erie PA, all my friends there were metalheads who hung out drinking by the railroad tracks. they thought I listened to a bunch of punk rock bullshit, and one of the only things that was a hit w/ that crowd, inexplicably, was "the throne of agony".

space dokken (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to see most of the remainder of my ballot, save 2 or 3

kilslug ;_;

space dokken (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

i'd guess that as filth made it, cop will be in there (in the 70s?). i think it sounds very pleasant; 'why hide' is almost a lullaby.

don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's not exactly a heart-warming and beloved chestnut. having read quite a few Swans reviews over the years, I think it's safe to say that it's their most loathed rec (save for perhaps The Burning World, which is obv loathed f/v. different reasons). I think Cop will make the cut, but when I started listening to it many years ago, very few people liked it and a lot of people I played it for hated it, and that impression is tough to shake.

Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

i guess we're not gonna get any Minutemen LPs besides Double Nickels, huh?

jaz a make wardance (some dude), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

No Means No are one of the most mind-blowing 60 plus/70 somethings I have ever seen.

Inspirational

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

it's a different world now dude

one where sunn 0))) sell out big clubs and doom is a major genre, not just an atmosphere in yr apartment

space dokken (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 23:19 (thirteen years ago)
