My mistake. Threads like this are impossible to follow on a iPhone.
Hopefully the albums poll has as many surprises in store as its singles counterpart.

yes! least rocking album of all time but glad it's in there even though i've never made it to the end without falling asleep.
― stirmonster, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:09 (thirteen years ago)
lol
at least it's not falling asleep at a gig! I dunno how mike t-d could have done that!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)
i fell asleep at a ryuichi sakamoto gig one time. i was in the front row and apparently at one particularly quiet passage mr. sakamoto looked with disdain to see where the loud snoring was coming from.
― stirmonster, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)
I also fell asleep at a Bob Dylan gig, during an interminable jam-band version of Highway 61 Revisited.

filth is yet another swans album where the original vinyl sounds much better than any of the subsequent remasters

The Filth album cover seems so perfectly fitted to the music. Swans for me are in good-not-great territory though.

Used to underrate I Against I because I was so obsessed with the self-titled album, but I relistened to it recently and it's awesome.

re: Filth:
Swans’ Filth is I think a crucial key to understanding their 80s work. without hearing Filth, the Cop and Young God recs can be mistaken solely f/tedious avant-garde exercises in epater-le-bourgeois antagonism, and the Greed/Screw era recs can seem like pop-tinged episodes of rather sterile goth-industrial. the first EP and Filth, however, clearly illustrate the rock basis behind the band’s relentless focus on rhythm, repetition and punk aggression, grounding their experimentation within the context of an aggressive dialogue with rock that entails both stripping it down to its essence and amplifying its more fervid and aggressive impulses.
here are three great tracks that I think really illustrate my point:
Swans - Right Wrong: http://youtu.be/2Q_HzQSqFHASwans - Thank You: http://youtu.be/v5883h_fcCASwans - Big Strong Boss: http://youtu.be/huSRpAKnNU4
― Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)
did I mention that it's aggressive? Swans driving me into one-track-mind mode.
― Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)
Bad Brains was my #21. I don't think Bunnymen are forgotten. Their tour a couple years ago was sold out I think. But yeah, it was a crime that Comsat Angels & The Sound weren't at least as well known as Teardrop Explodes, Psych Furs and Bunnymen.

i appreciate band of susans heads up because i have always just lumped them into the late 90s three word band names with proper names in them (better than ezra, letters to cleo). srsly. it appears that they are a little different than that.
also can i veto the hanoi rocks homework assignment and push really really hard for the wipers if you haven't heard them? i found that 3 cd box set for a dollar at the salvation army by my house and bought it because why not and holy shit, they are goooooood.
xpost i try to do my best
― Therion - Beyond Santorum (jjjusten), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 17:31 (thirteen years ago)
veto fuck, can he not listen to the wipers AND hanoi rocks lol
fascist :)
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)
i thought it would win it before the poll started.Unlike the tracks poll where the last 2 votes swapped the top 2 places the albums winner led from the start and it wasn't The Cure. Which shocked me, but hey a poll needs shocks n surprises.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)
he should listen to the wipers and hanoi rocks simultaneously
