ew no get away

space dokken (Edward III), Monday, 1 October 2012 23:30 (thirteen years ago)

not sure whether a seminal but caustic rec like Kollaps is too high or too low at 142.

Wiki:

In 1981, the percussionist F.M. Einheit (from the Hamburg band Abwärts) joined Einstürzende Neubauten and they released their first LP Kollaps (English: "Collapse"),[1] a mixture of rough punk rock tunes and industrial noises.

it's a punk rock record! too low!

What's that NWW album like? I started putting on Soliloquy for Lilith when going to sleep after there was some talk about it on the nominations thread. It doesn't rock but it's nice ambient noise!

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 00:14 (thirteen years ago)

There's something a bit wrong about PiL placing higher than 1984 but I have an especially bad attitude about PiL so it could just be me.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

go to 100, man, yr. practically there.

It's a good one. I'd rank 1984 a little higher myself. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" is awesome though.

xpost

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 00:21 (thirteen years ago)

i suppose if people are disappointed van halen or maiden or whoever didn't place high enough for them then they can only blame the fans of those acts who didn't vote.

Can think of quite a few people who would have voted for them. But hey you cant force anyone to vote.

get the feeling this one sneaked in and it doesn't rock much. does it?

― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, October 1, 2012 12:21 PM (5 hours ago)

And Live Skull, Psychic TV, Caroliner Rainbow, Jon Wayne, Neubauten, Savage Republic, and Loop do?

timellison, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

slightly mollified by the higher placing of Flowers of Romance, which in some ways is as radical as Kollaps. both are viciously anti-rock records aggressively mainlining a distillate of the contrarian euphoria of rock 'n roll. FOR sticks w/the traditional instrumentation, though, making it a bit like the outraged version of post-rock. also wondering about Halber Mensch which is in some ways a closer analogue. Cop and Filth still out there somewhere, but waiting f/Cop at this late hour is deeply counterintuitive to my 80s teen brain.

ha, this is one of those fun segues we've been seeing in the poll.

Sorry I wasn't around today -- very glad to see those two Candlemass albums place! As well as a bunch of other stuff, but those stand out seeing as AFAIK they are mostly beloved by metal obscurantists.

p. difficult to argue w/this, unless yr. idea of rock was frozen shortly after "Louie, Louie".

Love this too! I used to have it on cassette in the early 90s and played Testure so much it was faded out after awhile.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:12 (thirteen years ago)

IMO it's Skinny Puppy's magnum opus.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:13 (thirteen years ago)

Ok. That was the last one. sund4r you can do another recap if you like soon.
Remember everyone if you're still catching up or just joining us you can still chat about those albums that have placed.

Live Skull totally rocked.

― EveningStar (Sund4r), Monday, October 1, 2012 6:06 PM (9 minutes ago)

Yeah, definitely when Thalia Zedek was in the band. Maybe they did more on the early records than I'm remembering, too.

timellison, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:17 (thirteen years ago)

holy shit actual canonical ROCK in this poll = ZZ Top

fuck yes

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:20 (thirteen years ago)

HELL YEA Skinny Puppy! VIVIsectVI was their first album that I heard. It's usually a toss up between this and Too Dark Park for my favorite.

Raoul Duke (ku4u1u), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:30 (thirteen years ago)

VIVIsectVI was one that i pulled out and listened to during my ballot making and realized how gonzo badass it still sounds this many years later

Therion - Beyond Santorum (jjjusten), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:39 (thirteen years ago)

likewise. time has been kind to it. genius and way ahead of its time programming.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:43 (thirteen years ago)

Yea, IMO you need some headphones to fully appreciate it.

Raoul Duke (ku4u1u), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:46 (thirteen years ago)

oh god, so much rock in pre-zedek live skull, "fort belvedere", "x w/ the light", "glee product". "haircut for pigs".

"mr evil" doesn't just rock, it swings!

space dokken (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:47 (thirteen years ago)

OTM, but I've moved on to trying to crack the mystery of Skinny Puppy's appeal.

Hellhouse, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 01:52 (thirteen years ago)
