Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:21 (thirteen years ago)

-AG

go to 100 today and wrap it tomorrow! (this is ridiculous, so my 2nd choice is Fri - I can only vote in accordance w/my sched!)

Hellhouse, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

The earlier EP rocks pretty hard IMO. The versions on the album not so much.

aw I missed the placement of Freaky Styley

if RHCP had completely disbanded after Uplift Mofo Party Plan they would have a much much better rep

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Monday, 1 October 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

lol I missed UMPP too

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Monday, 1 October 2012 19:33 (thirteen years ago)

can we go back to 1987 when the Red Hots were fantastic

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Monday, 1 October 2012 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

so far this is a completely ridiculous poll that i give my full support to, if only because it's making me go back and finally rip certain CDs to my hard drive, after letting them languish in storage for god knows how long.

Ridiculous seems the best way to describe it!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)

ridiculous meaning hilarious and immense, we use it in its anti-pejorative sense.

big-mammed punisher (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Monday, 1 October 2012 19:41 (thirteen years ago)

Yes I get that Strongo!
I aimed for something different from other 80s polls/ilm polls/lists and we got it and yet the poll is still very much in the spirit of ilm. Everyones votes have mattered and nobody knows what will turn up next. Its been a fun poll to do as the voters have somehow grasped what I meant despite me being unable to explain what I was after that well.

And all of ilx have has a chance to check out some great tracks n albums.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

ok is EdwardIII around?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

The Dream Syndicate Days album is all about guitars, guitars, guitars. "Then She Remembers" rocks harder than more than half the stuff in this poll.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

I think Umber was the first of mine to place - my #8. Fucking love that album so much.

nate woolls, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, public castration was my #1, happy fun time music

space dokken (Edward III), Monday, 1 October 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

What made you pick it over studio albums?

Pity the metal fans aren't around to discuss the albums but I'm just glad some voted. Would love to see them chat though even if they hate polls. We're all on ILM to discuss music we like. (and we all know you're lurking!)

Took me the longest time to take the Kings voice but im glad i did.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

didn't vote for this one, but it's really good. I know what you mean about KD but he's got that crazy operatic thing going on which I think is cool.

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Monday, 1 October 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

It was the same with Dio. Took about 20 years to 'get' it

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 20:05 (thirteen years ago)

I hated MF when I first heard them. Mr Veg tried to play me some stuff and it was like my ears just closed over in terror.

Then I think through the Metallica Garage Inc stuff, or maybe it was the Probot collaboration with Grohl and King Diamond and I was like, oh wait I get it now, GIMME ALL OF THE MERCYFUL FATES

and now he's one of my alltime favorite singers next to like, Dio and Halford

He's fucking incredible.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 1 October 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

early swans was all about brutality, and public castration is the purest distillation. everything gira had done prior was a build-up to that material, and after the wave broke and receded they'd never get back there again. as an absurd reduction of rock's dionysian din to its elemental roots in the suffering of the blues, it exists outside of genre with even a barely tangential relationship to music itself. yet it's so compelling, sounds so massive, hasn't aged at all, and I still haven't heard a more harrowing record. a leviathan.

xp to AG

Monsters is a big dropoff from the run of albums leading up to it w/ terrible production but I still voted for it because I had room on my ballot and "Touchdown King" is an amazing song

^ some ppl seem lukewarm on this album but it's my 2nd favorite behind alien soundtracks (and I guess there's a silent majority since it finished above the other nommed chrome albs). wish there had been more psychedelic dystopian electropop albums like it. the album version of "new age" >>>> single version btw.

space dokken (Edward III), Monday, 1 October 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

missed this in the noms but would have voted for it. half machine lip moves still my fave chrome though.
