this is like one of those early-90s tours, when alt. rock and metal bands were being pushed onto the same bills. didn't quite see this level of eclecticism in the 80s, though.

Megadeth over Shout At the Devil

jeez guys

Will dip in a bit for comments - Sunday is football day so I'm not really as attentive as I could be. But the raiders stink so I'm teaching them a lesson rn

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 30 September 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, w/the right audience, the whole sequence of metal recs today would be good f/a clusterfuck bloodbath. I'm just amazed Blind Idiot God is smack in the middle of the list.

ok recovered from Ryder Cup celebrations and on we go

I seriously love this album

voted for Perverted by Language, I do think it's too low, that's a great record

I think we are not going to see Pop Group or UT now ;_;

LET'S HAVE A WAAAAAAAR

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 30 September 2012 23:11 (thirteen years ago)

Oh boy Fear. Prob a good example of what crut was saying in the other thread about 'shock the bourgeoisie' tactics that just come off as crass. Yet there's still something undeniably about that album, to me anyway. They're pretty much bottom of my (and prob the rest of the world's) wkiw list though.
Think Hex Enduction Hour was my Fall pick. Have never really got on with solo Nick Cave, but it might be getting near time for me to give him yet another try.

chewed postcard to robert smith (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 30 September 2012 23:18 (thirteen years ago)

oh I voted for Hex too. The Fall 79-83 is one of my all time favorite bands

Conviction's a cool, weird rec, but I didn't expect to see it even in the top 400. despite heroic blog efforts to resurrect the band as key no-wave players, they still seem - like Live Skull - almost destined to being chronically under-appreciated. (actually, far less appreciated than even Live Skull).

Hellhouse, Sunday, 30 September 2012 23:20 (thirteen years ago)

Conviction is like an amalgamation of my other 2 favorite recs from 86--EVOL and first T Muses album--except better. Seeing you mention them in one of the nom/voting threads and knowing that the bottom reaches of the poll were getting in with 1 or 2 votes gave me lots of hope, but I suppose realistically it didn't have much of a shot.

Here's one of my favorite songs from the album: http://youtu.be/ndIdwZW7CXU

re: Space Mantra

surprised b/c I thought this rec was lost in the 500s. a great rec w/a heavy dose of Chrome/krautrock momentum added to the usual psych sprawl. weird to see it place above Nick Cave, Fugazi and The Fall w/zero push, but I'm happy to see it here.

Hellhouse, Monday, 1 October 2012 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

I think that's a good time to leave it for tonight. See you all in the afternoon.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 00:15 (thirteen years ago)

Conviction (rip) was my #20, Perverted by Langauge #18 (both too low tbh) but Space Mantra was my #11,; one of my first forays in space rock, and still a huge touchstone, def has become one of my favorite 80s albums

Badass run going here, I own and like all of the past 22 entries.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 1 October 2012 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

The third and last time I saw The Cramps was Halloween night in San Francisco. I was in a Baron Samedi costume and completely loaded on special brownies. Lux didn't wave his willy like he used to, but it was still a great show, during which I hallucinated dancing pink devils. Can't believe he's been gone for over 3-1/2 years now.

I used to have problems with the production of Pyro, it sounded band on my cheap record player. I got the reissue with the extra live disc a while back and it sounds awesome, both studio and live. They really need to remaster the first two also.

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 1 October 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

I'm going to be that guy and say that naked city is way too low. Another album that pretty much rewired my head.

Die Kreuzen a v. late cut, and one of the best hardcore recs ever in a field littered w/homogenous crap. jagged and metallic and nasty and tight as fuck. only Man in the Trees IMO matches the intensity of the earlier material while successfully exploring a wider aesthetic (postpunk noise-metal w/occasional grabs f/pop hooks). October File may be due f/a revision, though.
