After the Quarrel...

Ducking out for a bit, which will conveniently stop me from getting into my conflicted feelings about KJ's distinct creepy nutter vibes.

no Age of Quarrel on Spotify, but this is the only track anyone needs to hear:

Cro-Mags - We Gotta Know: http://youtu.be/f7eIQBCii_E

i think i have the album on mp3. if not i need to fix that.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

there's a difference between "this was in my personal ballot" and "i am disappointed/annoyed this was not voted higher on the list by others"

only sometimes true. and it doesn't stop people who voted f/obscure recs that they wholeheartedly love to bits from thinking that the rec should be higher. maybe the left brain is okay w/the low placing, but the music-loving lizard brain wants that fucker in the top 10.

The Atheist albums were on Spotify a few months ago but now seem to be gone.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:02 (thirteen years ago)

it wasn't so very long ago that idea of Big Black's Kerosene winning any 80s poll was virtually unthinkable (and the notion was 100% unthinkable in the 80s). so it's occasionally tough to "rationally" gauge where the music "should" place. Keiji Haino placing above Bon Jovi can ignite all sorts of "irrational" hopes and ideas about where certain albums "should" be.

xxp

Hellhouse, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

big black winning that only happened due to the last couple of ballots iirc.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)

a win is a win, no?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

Indeed, but that track has always stood out beyond the album, esp round here. So I'm not surprised it was top 10. Didn't expect it to win though. Nobody even discussed big black on the threads! so i guess it won without campaigning. Biggest surprise in the poll obviously was bands with highly rated albums also getting tracks from those albums that aren't seen as classic standalone tracks placing so high.
Well, until you saw the ballots and every sonic youth track took up the top 10 in plenty of occasions, lol.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

That of course doesn't automatically mean it happened in the albums ballots.

Hellhouse, Saturday, 29 September 2012 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

I'm surprised this placed so much higher than The Guilty Have No Pride, since it's got so many of, at least IMO, DI6's "hits."

Anyone know if jjj has purchased that Sonic Youth album he promised to buy?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

x-post

That's a good boy. There are no hidden agendas, and it is of course perfectly rational to rule out conspiracy ahead of any facts. Only crazies become convinced that anything is ever a conspiracy. Laughing on cue at the things you've been taught to automatically laugh at is a sign of an educated and intelligent mind.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 29 September 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

Anybody ever read that Gwenyth Todd thread?

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 29 September 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

Will anyone be around for another 10 albums tonight?

I actually don't have any beef w/"conspiracy" theorists at all, and recognize the term as one of condescension and dismissal, typically employed to discount the ugly and primitive motivations that have always driven fucked-up policy decisions (usually regarding cash, land, oil and other resources). I was simply making a reference to the earlier comment about Killing Joke. but all of this is f/another thread.

sorry I slept in way late & am going out this evening so won't be around much

Bummed that Prayers on Fire came in so low, it's a brilliant album

great album, but sometimes the concept outstrips the execution. I think it intentionally toys w/the fine line between psych and monotony, driving metal down dead ends to find the breaking points in its aggressive minimalism. v. much an art project in that way, but I'm not always in the mood f/that gamesmanship.

Hellhouse, Saturday, 29 September 2012 23:38 (thirteen years ago)

that being said, I think there's a lot of Gore in Prong's Beg to Differ, just f/one example.
