Re: Swans

one of my favorite Swans records, and though it's often lumped in w/Filth, it's far more lithe and jabbing, Gira's will-to-sludge tempered by the lingering no-wave blurt.

Horrific. Who on earth voted for these knaves?

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Saturday, 29 September 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

Einsturzende Neubauten's Drawings of OT not currently on Spotify, so here are a couple of tracks that "rock" (or at least not make you want to implode into a tiny ball of leather and teeth and roll into the sewer).

proud to discover 3 other people voted for the first Kix album with me

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

FAR TOO LOW for Abigail (my #33).

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:34 (thirteen years ago)

"Blow My Fuse" is catchy. I know it's on a different album but is that s/t Kix similar?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

Seems that the only Kix songs I know are on Blow My Fuse.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe the first album is a no wave record.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

Sunar you can post a recap now if you want.

Shamefully low for Living Colour (#18).

Def sticking Radio Birdman - Living Eyes on my 'to listen to' list, should prob also remind myself what those MDC and Agent Orange albums sound like.

Also can I get a 'TOO LOW' for Frankenchrist? That album is great once you adjust to the taste for loooong songs that they'd developed by that stage. Chicken Farm is a particular personal fave song, and Soup Is Good Food still resonates in the current austerity era.
OTOH very pleased that Dag Nasty - Can I Say made the rollout, even in such a low place (think this must have been one that showed up while I was sleeping).

chewed postcard to robert smith (Mr Andy M), Saturday, 29 September 2012 15:55 (thirteen years ago)

Frankenchrist is my fave tbh but the reason it was low was because jjj forgot to nominate it and the others so they were added like a week in

seems low f/canonical hardcore, but maybe not f/ILM? didn't vote f/any Misfits, so w/e.

Hellhouse, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

I think tbh any album that makes it ,no matter the placing, should be glad its just placed when you see things that didn't and remember that some voters vote for every album by certain (multiple) bands.

'should be glad it just placed' = an odd sentiment in a poll thats running the top 400 out 493 (not a dig). I'm really hoping that that last 93 aren't hiding any crucial gems :\

alpha flighticles (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

400/556, right?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

oh is it 556? I thought Kerr said 500 wasnt possible because 500 albums didnt get votes?

Quite low this but as I said earlier..

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:18 (thirteen years ago)

So wow, I don't think anything I voted for is even going to make the top 100. Most of the stuff on my ballot that would place has already done so.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

xp There's still hope for Psalm 9

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

^Still love all the Black Flag album art. Music-wise I get off the bus round about Slip It In though. (Not every single one of the later records and there may well be some gems that I'm missing but I kind of feel like life's too short).

Well if it had been a top 50 or a top 77 (hoho board injokes)like some people wanted you would not have any of these albums and it would just be a case of what order do the 50 albums we all know place

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

In My Head my second fave Black Flag rec after Damaged, if only f/title track and Out of this World.

In My Head: http://youtu.be/_31h2YxKEQI
Out of this World: http://youtu.be/kuD6icgNtsE

the entire rec is a front-row seat to the band's road-war fatigue wrestling w/Ginn's refusal to quit. a wired-from-exhaustion buzz dropping euphoria and obsession a hundred miles from hardcore.

Hellhouse, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, I'm happy they placed bcz the list was so long--I'm fully in support of there being a top 400--I just thought Misfits were kinda considered sacred cows round here, but yknow votespliting sera sera...

I'm not sure I've read a lot about Misfits here but I suppose the people who are into them didn't vote whilst those into other similar sized bands did vote. It certainly makes a poll unpredictable.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)

Sund4r if the idea of "ac/dc meets the cars" intrigues you, def check out the first two Kix albums

da croupier, Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:50 (thirteen years ago)

Re: Misfits, I'm with the people way upthread that beyond the box set it's weirdly difficult to get a proper grip on their discography, what with the held-back releases, different versions of same songs, different editions of albums etc. So it's not surprising that there doesn't seem to be a strong consensus choice of theirs for this poll.

I voted for Obituary and King Diamond, both excellent records. Lots more stuff I've never heard on this run, I'll have to do some more investigating.

Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Saturday, 29 September 2012 16:56 (thirteen years ago)

listening now to Repulsion's Horrified, btw, capital spew sporting riff-action that towers over the hash of bad grind. serenades f/yr. inner window-smasher. recommended.
