Three awesome covers on the trot there but I think (out and can't check my vote) I voted for both the EN and Venom which is weird.
AG was asking me about EN and I said Haus Der Luge is really the transition where you begin to hear the bits which are more influenced by Blixa's time in the Bad Seeds more, in other words a jumping on point for people.
I typed this before the lazy Diamond Head cover (on a great album, admittedly).
― passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
yeah I'm kinda used to most folks' jumping on points being my jumping off points
apparently they were still bringing it live during that period and I kick myself for not seeing them at the ritz when they toured

This is what the original Diamond Head covers looked like :

A guy we tailgate with has the Operation Mindcrime logo tatooed on the back of his neck. Which he revealed to us moments after Mr Veg had given a long diatribe on why he hated that album so much, lol

terrible band
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:44 (thirteen years ago)
I never really 'got' them
Even the stuff before mindcrime that's supposedly better just seems v pretentious. I also really don't like Geoff Tate
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 28 September 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)
lol i will never forget when my brother worked at a movie theater where one of his co-workers was a Queensryche obsessive with a 'Got Ryche?' sticker on the back of their car
heard an unfamiliar Queensryche song on the local hard rock station's lunchtime 'hairball' block the other day, sounded more like Gated Drum Zep than Whitesnake

I like prog, love metal, so I tried way too hard to like that album over the years. I think it's the vocals that I can't deal with, because I can certainly stomach extremely dorky, earnest lyrics.
― Fastnbulbous, Friday, 28 September 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)
the only good queensryche is their first EP

Haha Dan is entirely right to bring up GOD and I will vote the shit out of them in a 90s poll but I fucking love that Torture Garden album.
― passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Friday, 28 September 2012 20:07 (thirteen years ago)
is someone planning a 90s version of this poll?

and they got better, anybody who's been digging the F/i stuff owes it to themselves to check out the later blind idiot god records
I anticipate hellhouse will be mightily pleased at this development
― space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 28 September 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)
If you don't like Tate's voice, you should probably avoid Queensryche altogether because much (but def not all) of their appeal lies in the vocal chops. Mindcrime was #7 on my ballot.
xpost Is there some connection between F/i and Blind Idiot God?
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)
There's certainly a connection between Queensryche and a pile of shite.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)
Where are J0hn and glenn mcdonald? They can back me up on this Queensryche thing, I think.

only connection between F/i and blind idiot god is they're both engaged in instrumental heavy psych explorations, liking one I imagine would predispose you to the other
here's a youtube playlist for blind idiot god's undertow
sorry if this embeds, looks like youtube doesn't use the short URL on playlists
