Not all African music sounds like fart sounds.

I think that samples something else. Ingoma Tribe's Ensemble De Tambours, says google?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 28 September 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)

which is also what black burundi sampled:

oh, no, i'm sorry, i've had a long day and am feeling paranoid and thought you meant me.

I listened to a promo copy of the album that resulted from her kickstarter thing and let's just say nobody is getting even a cent of their money's worth

I could use a hug after sitting through most of that album.

unclear about why one would send out promos in our radical new model of the music business where all the traditional channels of production have been bypassed in the name of a greater purity

i want to shake that new yorker author by his collar for being a lazy thinker. The thing is, the kickstarter donors aren't like shareholders in a corporation. Rather, a better comparison is to institutional funders of non-profit organizations. It's less about return on investment and more about fulfilling the stated mission or the goals of the project - the R.O.I. is less a financial one and more being of service to the public. And that model - the foundation - is one of the few instances of noblesse oblige that still exists in society today.

wouldn't it be sweet if the people you can pitch ideas to for an actual loan or funding weren't scumbag venture capitalist dudes or internet whiners. or if we had more actual government programs like sweden or w/e

The whirlwind of activity and attention that surrounds an “overnight sensation” like Amanda’s Kickstarter can really mix up plans and intentions and execution in ways that are hard for the public to discern, especially when so many different people are involved. It certainly wasn’t anyone’s intention to take advantage of or exploit anyone. And for what it’s worth, once the feedback started rolling in at the start of tour, I was glad to forgo profits from the nightly sales of my own merch in order to compensate the volunteers.

for a guy who claims to be more of a musician than a speaker, he really is a much better communicator. maybe because he sat down and wrote out this whole deal instead of making piecemeal claims and rebuttals?

She's doing it because of the feedback (and keeps pointing that out) rather than it was the right thing to do.
