+ 1, 2 Step + I Run It + spot on Lose Control

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 12:12 (thirteen years ago)

(mostly reacting against the "everyone else's offcuts" angle, more so than the "she's boring" one)

Ham Lushbaugh (Eric H.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 12:13 (thirteen years ago)

The only Ciara song I care about is "Goodies"

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 12:32 (thirteen years ago)

100% I would have voted for Taylor Swift, but given the choices I'm gonna pick Beyonce, though I think that all of these have good songs.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

FWIW I would vote for Ciara a billion times before I voted for Taylor Swift

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

it is kind of nice that we've been denied the depressing inevitability of a swift landslide

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

decided to vote for Missy, just because i'm still delighted that she made "Gossip Folks" a top 10 hit

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

the swift landslider, flex the white-gold tarantula

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

Missy would have this easy if she hadn't kind of vanished from the radar right around "Lose Control." Everything up through that was pretty much the best shit on the radio.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 27 September 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

Missy is a very strong contender against my Beyonce kneejerk

then again I don't know if Missy has a video like this:

i will admit that i have developed a really strange liking for that current taylor swift song but in general i hate her and her weird little cat face plus she let that hulking monstrosity john mayer touch her which speaks volumes abt her ability to make decisions

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

split decision for me between missy and pink i suppose

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

which current Taylor Swift song, because if you say "We Are Never Ever Ever Ever You Know What Fuck This" I just don't even know anymore

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

ha thats the one. i have no idea why it appeals to me. i drink a lot, maybe this is the sign of some sort of impending wetbrain disaster.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

;_;

RIP jjjusten, I will treasure your Foetus albums

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

oh you and your indie records that are much cooler than his

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

oh man, I think if we lived in a world where jjj's album collection was more mainstream than mine, we would also have a Latino lesbian president and our national language would be Tagalog

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

beyonce is definitely the better "pop star" and all the things that entails, but song-for-song/album-for-album i'll take ciara's discog

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:18 (thirteen years ago)

lol what

i just heard ciara's new "promise" knockoff today, her career trajectory has only been slightly less steep than ashanti's

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

and actually ashanti's latest single was surprisingly good!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGlJiRSdgoA

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

voting for ciara in this kind of poll seems silly & kinda minor tho. not that i even quite understand what we're supposed be voting on but anyway '4' is probably my favorite album of anything here except maybe 'fame monster' or one of the missy albums. but beyonce is... beyonce.

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

i'm thinking of voting for fergie..............

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

my man

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

anyway '4' is probably my favorite album

and her only album with no top 10s!

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

and actually ashanti's latest single was surprisingly good!

okay wtf

is this genuinely good or is this just an indictment of the current pop R&B scene, I genuinely can't tell

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

also I genuinely like the word "genuinely" a little too much

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

yeah. i guess another thing is that i feel some optimism about beyonce's career moving forward coming after 4 where i can't really say the same thing for anyone else on this list except maybe gaga.

but yeah i'd put ciara's four albums and their singles right up with beyonce's four albums and their singles

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

lol terius stans

the definition of fuckshit bird (some dude), Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

the trouble is so many of ciara's peaks were just put out as afterthoughts or WENT UNRELEASED because her career has been direly mismanaged for 6 out of 8 years, so these rankings are in terms of uhh "eras" rather than what actually ended up on the album per se

4 > basic instinct > fantasy ride = b'day > the evolution > i am...sasha fierce > goodies > dangerously in love

song for song, if not single for single, ciara easily goes head2head and probably trumps beyoncé

lex pretend, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

i mean not that B is not a goddess in her own right obv and i'm not gonna argue this particularly battle too heavily. if anyone tries to claim that rihanna > ciara though, that's when the guns'll come out

lex pretend, Thursday, 27 September 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that's true, Madonna's catalog was not wonderfully good the past decade.

Tyler Burns ([email protected]), Thursday, 27 September 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

Ciara feels very 'of her time' to me -- she capitalized on the whole crunk & B thing, managed to make a couple good singles after that trend ran out of steam, and then lacked the talent, creativity or charisma to stay in the game much longer than that.

some dude, Thursday, 27 September 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

I think what happened to Ciara, Ahanti, and even J-Lo is that radio just stopped playing them all of a sudden. Only J-Lo managed to make a short comeback because of American Idol.

Also strangely, Britney wasn't getting much radio support before her tabloid and meltdown days. Only "Oops I Did it Again" and "Toxic" made it to the Top 10 (and only to number 9) before she came back with "Gimme More".

what does this have to do w anything

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 19:07 (thirteen years ago)

that Basic Instinct was garbage

some dude, Thursday, 27 September 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

LeRoo your two observations are actually pretty closely connected -- around 2005 when iTunes started having a big influence on the Hot 100 the chart's center of gravity shifted from R&B radio to pop radio

some dude, Thursday, 27 September 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

it's not, also it's better than dangerously in love and miles better than sasha fierce

& i'd probably still take fantasy ride over those two even if we're not even including all the great scraps that never made the album

instafapper (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 September 2012 19:12 (thirteen years ago)

That's a pretty good observation. I always figured Britney being in the media so much at the time (even for bad reasons) just made her even more popular and radio finally gave in to the public. Before that her carreer seemed kind of over. (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

I wouldn't vote on Madonna based on her Top 10 singles, but I do like the Music, American Life, and Confessions on a Dance Floor albums.

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

vote for

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

f*ck the hate and ban me if you wish, i'm voting for ke$ha ..

i think the double set that we got in the uk (animal and cannibal) was great fun ..

mark e, Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

I think Ke$ha has proven herself with time. "Blah Blah Blah" was a bad single choice after "Tik Tok", but I think most people came round with "Your Love Is My Drug" or "We R Who We R".

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)

heh "Blah Blah Blah" was the only one i remotely enjoyed

some dude, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

Lol ok. I thought it was pushing her trashy persona too far and the music was kind of generic.

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:07 (thirteen years ago)

i like trashy.

mark e, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

Well bros, since no one has stepped up yet for Katy Perry, and since Norah Jones (despite selling 36 million records worldwide) is off the list...

canonical casual cordouroy (Eazy), Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

oh, and i guess i like generic.

mark e, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)

I like Ke$ha better than f@%&*n Katy Perry.

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

seriously, are there people who don't ?

this ain't a Would Smash thread

some dude, Thursday, 27 September 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

it works cuz she sounds like she'd rather be getting tortured than be doing a remix for rihanna

lil dirk (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

entirely prejudice on my part, i just like that kind of palpable bridesmaid-party desperation less on rihanna

goole, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

tbh I can't deal with "S&M" since it came out after Rihanna had the shit beaten out of her by Chris Brown

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)

consent vs non-consent, what

zachylon (zachlyon), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)

that is exactly the point; releasing a song about how getting whipped sexually excites the narrator of the song after publicly getting her ass beat fuels the "she probably asked for it/did something to deserve it" narrative floating around Team Breezy

Rihanna obv can do and say whatever she wants, but other people do actually get to have opinions on whether those decisions are stupid.

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

ok my opinion is more power to her for not giving a shit about people who hate her for being an abuse victim

zachylon (zachlyon), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think that's exaaaactly what DJP is saying there

goole, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

yeah. fuck off with this "people who hate her for being an abuse victim" shit.

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

I think he's talking about Team Breezy, not me

set me on fire RAAAAH (DJP), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

had to double-check that zachylon was also the "imo this is about people shaming a woman for making choices" guy

gesange der yuengling (crüt), Wednesday, 3 October 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

uh yeah i'm talking about team breezy here

yes i am that guy
