ha brings a tear to my eye to see a noted bon scott loyalist give it up for back in black

Algeddie Trunkeeper (some dude), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know if I can defend voting for the Cult three times without giving a vote to AC/DC or Motorhead tbh.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

Wait, did I not even vote for Def Leppard? WTF?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

i love that the Cult got proper respect though!

Algeddie Trunkeeper (some dude), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:47 (thirteen years ago)

i didn't realize until making it that the top 3 songs are all mutt lange productions and that three other songs have the word "she" in the title

half of back in black is godly, half is bleh, and the only song i truly love after that album is the "baba o'riley" disco stomp that they did twice ("who made who"/"thunderstruck")

da croupier, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

yeah post-BIB is spotty for sure but some people will even try to deny BIB

Algeddie Trunkeeper (some dude), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:49 (thirteen years ago)

so many ballots here OTM, WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG

Hellhouse, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:53 (thirteen years ago)

some dude, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:55 (thirteen years ago)

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

yeah thank you guys! this was fun!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

thanks!

da croupier, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

This is possibly my most hive mind ballot ever, but that's probably because I liked contemporary popular music more in the 80s than I have since (and even if most of it hasn't worn than well for me, some of it has stuck).

_Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

Also it may have helped that I didn't make any nominations (but there have been EOY polls in which, had I not made any nominations, I basically wouldn't have voted for anything).

_Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm glad you enjoyed the poll.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

i love that the Cult got proper respect though!

So weird, considering that I've never bought a Cult album, while I own copies of Pyromania and Hysteria. I made my ballots pretty quickly tbh.

Definitely: thanks to AG and seandalai!

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

xpost

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:13 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i've never bought a Cult album either, but they're a great singles act, which is exactly why i voted for them a bunch in the tracks poll and was happy to see them place

esp. "Night Shift"

shame on you all for not voting for "The Choke" tho

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:45 (thirteen years ago)

also "**** (Jungle Law)" which is secretly one of the best Love and Rockets songs ever, and actually led to their most popular album being a big disappointment to me because I felt like it didn't live up to the amazing opener

cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:46 (thirteen years ago)

Express is prob my fave L&R album. I love how Vamos by Pixies is basically a shameless ripoff of Yin and Yang and the Flowerpot Man.

cock chirea, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 23:55 (thirteen years ago)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 27 September 2012 00:17 (thirteen years ago)

Oneohchex Point Charlie (Spectrist), Thursday, 27 September 2012 00:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah big props to AG and seandalai for running this circus, the 250 countdown was of course opposed, decried as idiocy, and then embraced as a stroke of genius

I wish I could say the poll turned me on to some stuff but I think this decade is too tapped out for me

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Thursday, 27 September 2012 00:41 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks AG and seandalai, and I'm sorry I'm already complaining about the 400 album rollout. This was fun. I'd still rather listen to Grupo Niche than most of these songs though, most of the time.

_Rudipherous_, Thursday, 27 September 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

sonic youth update - since i am not driving out to get the cd tonight, i am making up for it by listening to stuff on spotify, and my memory was correct, death valley '69 is really really fucking awesome.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)

decided which you will buy?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:04 (thirteen years ago)

he is buying confusion is sex, there is no other option

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:12 (thirteen years ago)

Wait if 3 of us voted for cardboard lamb how come it only has 2 votes in the results?

Moka, Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:33 (thirteen years ago)

hanging chad

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Thursday, 27 September 2012 02:37 (thirteen years ago)

I repeat: I demand a recount! Stirmonster, Spectrist and me voted for Cardboard Lamb and only 2 votes are registered on that list.

Moka, Thursday, 27 September 2012 04:16 (thirteen years ago)

this poll is moot; lock thread

mookieproof, Thursday, 27 September 2012 04:17 (thirteen years ago)

One of my questions was whether the parameters of the poll were informed by sociological rather than musical factors, so you can see the relation to the rockism debate there.

I didn't understand where you were coming from when you asked about this on the nomination thread. Do you see a sociological factor that links Crass, Poison, the Birthday Party, Minor Threat, Fates Warning, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Neil Young but excludes REM, the Smiths, the Talking Heads, and Bruce Springsteen?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:11 (thirteen years ago)

throw bad brains in there for fun

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:19 (thirteen years ago)

All I really 'regret'/would do differently is over-representing some bands. I would drop one or two Rush and Husker Du songs and make room for Bad Brains and stuff.

xpost!

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:36 (thirteen years ago)

Well, I brought up a few topics about particular artists that I still wonder about. Like I suggested that the Feelies had just worn the wrong clothes. I think there are also questions about artists who are not particularly rock-oriented but may have been included because their aesthetic was countercultural in certain prescribed ways.

The Rickenbacker question was more of a musical one.

timellison, Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:41 (thirteen years ago)

not starting a fight here, and i missed the feelies discussion, but my gut feeling is that the feelies wouldn't fit here, and idk what they look like.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:46 (thirteen years ago)

(Right after I typed that, I clicked on the album results thread and saw someone talking about a Caroliner Rainbow record.)

timellison, Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:47 (thirteen years ago)

xp - There was a fairly extensive conversation about why Dream Syndicate and Thin White Rope were included but R.E.M. or the Three O'Clock were not, why a group like Slovenly would be included and the Feelies would not, etc.

timellison, Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:50 (thirteen years ago)

actually just listened to boy with the perpetual nervousness, and its like one distorted guitar away from misson of burma so i take that back. altho theres a lot of talking heads here, so if they were blocked maybe i get it? were the feelies 86ed?

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:50 (thirteen years ago)

that being said, as i have listened through the tracks on spotify tonight, theres something there (mostly) that is different from the feelies/rem/etc, but i cant put my finger on it quite.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:52 (thirteen years ago)

yah, not to put words in any mouths but I believe that might have been the sticking point for EZSnappin

seem like a real thin line between Dream Syndicate/Soft Boys and Feelies tbh. Fa Ce La seems v Dionysian to these ears

did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:54 (thirteen years ago)

xp

did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:54 (thirteen years ago)

You want distortion, listen to the double-tracked solo on "Loveless Love."

timellison, Thursday, 27 September 2012 05:54 (thirteen years ago)

holy crap man, human cannonball is so obv the gateway drug for the butthole surfers, this is fucking fantastic

somebody wake djp up and make him listen to this
