If Sonic Youth can be compared to Bauhaus by DJP and Yes by Gary Young then there is no question they belong on this thread

i've always heard some commonality between '80s goth stuff and various SY songs up through Evol, but not in a way where i thought there was any direct influence flowing either way

As bad as this will sound, I'd never really listened to them before I went through the noms list to put together my ballot, but my feeling is that they are the best at what they do.
Obv it helps a lot that I'm into the reference points (Elevators, Stooges) but more than that heavy, tranced-out pysch is something I've always been into as an idea but found a lot of the actual examples not quite satisfying in how they were executed. Spacemen 3 really nailed it.

spacemen 3 important in the late 80s when a bunch of bands I loved either started sucking or broke up (swans, butthole surfers, sonic youth, scratch acid, big black), S3 + skullflower + getting my hands on psychedelics well you know how it goes in college

looking at the list of nominated tracks at this point would ruin my enjoyment. this list keeps suprising me and I like it that way
