Hey it's the Rush song that even moaners like me enjoy.
― This Is Nilbog, We Do What We Like (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
I wonder if "YYZ" beat it! Don't think "Spirit of Radio" was nominated.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
yeah for Rush its ok
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:13 (thirteen years ago)
I prefer Red Barchetta over Tom Sawyer meself
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)
and Temples of Syrinx over all but that's not 80s
"Red Barchetta" is probably my OPO.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:15 (thirteen years ago)
Don't think it was nominated though.

― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:33 (thirteen years ago)
Breakin the Law is awesome -- I personally prefer the live version for the BREAKIN THA WOT? BREAKIN THA WOT? BREEEEAAAAKIN THAA LAAAAAAAWWWWW
Number of the Beast - nice to see it paired with Priest but aaaaaggggghhh goddammit way too low you jerks
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
I could give a shit abt Sonic Youth tbh
I like em but I don't care that much?
its a case of sonic youth fans voting for tracks from albums
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)
craziness
but otoh its cool to see non Daydream Nation tracks getting a look in.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
Iron Maiden = Awesome running music.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
but unlike the husker du tracks we had already on here , this one doesnt really work as a standalone track. I listen to their albums as a whole.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:39 (thirteen years ago)
a couple of Du tracks didn't place btw just incase you're think Du fans just voted for everything. (not that im saying SY fans did either)but i know some dude i think it was thought that their fans might vote everything into the top 20
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:41 (thirteen years ago)
SY is my favorite band of all time but i don't really know where they fit in this poll or why they're here, didn't put much on my ballot
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)
56 Gang Of Four - To Hell With Poverty! 598 Points, 11 Votes, One #1 http://open.spotify.com/track/0cHtok9IcECmpLhkKsdznBhttp://youtu.be/sPJHQmJAiKA
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)
They fit as well as anyone else on here. Esp the early stuff i see no problem.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)
pch = highlight of late 20th c music
― A.R.R.Y. Kane (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)
I like em but I don't care that much?Even though I did vote for them I'm kind feeling this take on SY. From the noms thread on it's seemed clear that views on them tend to be quite polarized between all-time, life-changing genius on the one hand and overrated crap that represents all of that horrible indie stuff we hate on the other. For me both views seem weird because SY will always just be 'a band I quite like'.
The slow, jammy bit on Pacific Coast Highway is good.
― This Is Nilbog, We Do What We Like (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:44 (thirteen years ago)
the indie hate is quite bizarre on ilm. Because it comes from people who used to be into it.Modern indie hate i understand i guess as its really meaningless now.

55 Mudhoney - In 'n' Out of Grace 612 Points, 12 Voteshttp://open.spotify.com/track/5uDqT9eP1Jfdf7e2p6VIGthttp://youtu.be/BMuLYVOqFNQ
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)
awesome song
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)
hate for the indie canon on ILM comes from the exact same basic place as the impulse to make an "ANTI-ROLLING STONE CANON" afaict
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)
^ Not a 'BOOM' I can do big enough for that one.
― This Is Nilbog, We Do What We Like (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)
Out of what are obv countless contenders on the poll I think this may be personal over-enthusiastic slam-dancing fave.
― This Is Nilbog, We Do What We Like (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)
The drums on the intro and breakdown/build sound so great too.
― This Is Nilbog, We Do What We Like (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
some dude rolling stone means nothing to me but i see hate for it and its cannon on ilm all the time (from americans) and i thought it was eyecatching.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
i wouldve been happy if this song had been #1 tbh
lol well it definitely seems like you have no idea what the rolling stone canon is based on this thread, so that's not a surprise
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)
I do wonder what tom and the people behind the origin of ilm would think of the poll. They might be appalled by the very idea of a rock poll?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)
I wish Tom and the others still posted here.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)
To be clear I don't have some indie hate vibe going on, I just know that sonic youth is a bag of shit.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)
nah that songs a cult favourite on here because of outloud/all-time metal poll.
Yeah I'd never even heard of Angel Witch before that poll, awesome song though.
― Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)
i think you have a weird and inaccurate view of what those people listen to and think about music (xpost)
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)
shame you hate pre-DN SY jjj as I thought it might be right up yer alley.
