i defer to those who were there at the time, but i kinda imagine sonic youth were au fait with 'shambolic guitar splatter' rather before they had heard the outcome of dinosaur jr listening to neil young's back catalogue

perhaps it is just terrible sound quality but I feel like Dino Jr is really intent on hiding the bass while Husker and MBV do a lot to isolate it and bring it to the forefront

also the drums on Husker/MBV sound much, much crisper

re Jane's lyrics - Perry's pretty much certifiably nuts, but he used to sing like a motherfucker so sometimes it's okay to make an exception.

and Eric Avery is probably my top 5 alltime favorite bass players
