playlist-wise I'm way behind dan, was just reminded of how much I don't like kmfdm, now mistaking "it's so easy" for "sex type thing" and getting confused

the way this list could truly be the Anti-Rolling Stone Canon is if "Tom Sawyer" is #1
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)
I thought that Neubauten track might have scraped the 50.
it was my number 1.

Dude that we be rad actually. If TS makes top 10 I'm beamin! In fact now I wish I'd voted for it
Xp hey I voted for that! I've gotten into that album in a major way lately. When Its Over wouldve been top five had I nominated it
― did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:25 (thirteen years ago)
I also thought it was a little odd to call this an anti-RS canon.
Rolling Stone canons have always stretched the definition of rock to include any kind of pop music that has even vague associations w/rock.
I don't think this is true: Journey and Bon Jovi were about as far from the RS canon in the 80s as possible (certainly more so than Husker Du or the Replacements). Iirc, RS's 'end of the 90s' list included an 'alternative' section with hardly any albums on independent labels and a 'rock' section dominated by rootsy classic rock warhorses like the Stones or Van Morrison.
AG's poll isn't an anti-RS canon in the strictest sense, it's rooted in a different sensibility. This is certainly OTM though.

that youtube is a thing of beauty
That Nickelback line is just dumb by the way. The only connection is that Rush and Nickelback are both popular Canadian bands.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)
but of course, i we would hope for that.
corrected.

YES to Last Caress. Really sums up that weirdly heroic vibe that so much Misfits material had.

re: Tanz Debil
I nominated this track and had it in my top ten, and I'm happy to see it place. out of all the aesthetic forms competing f/the term "industrial", I consider Tanz Debil to be almost an ideal archetype that never really took root. a stellar example of punishing clang fed by sleepless machinic hate, and an ideosyncratic peak f/Neubauten.

speaking of archetypes, "goo goo muck" is like the platonic ideal of a cramps song, kind of a bummer that it placed outside the top 100

I've gone back to Joni Mitchell. I'll get caught up with this list.
(Plus, I can't do Spotify so I'm listening to Youtubes, which is more labour-intensive.)

if every metallica and nirvana album got packed on a shiny spaceship and blown into space, well, might as well take all these megadeath and pearl jam records while you're at it
