Ha, I voted for five Sonic Youth tracks and three Cult tracks. Looking at the ballot now, I'm surprised by both but especially by the Cult votes.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 03:28 (thirteen years ago)
And no, I don't actually think that Sonic Youth made 10% of the greatest rock songs of the 80s. They were my favourite band, or close, from ages 15-23 or so, so I'm really familiar with their catalogue. When voting, it was hard to gauge how to rank e.g. really awesome songs that I'd just discovered over vs album tracks that I knew by heart because I'd listened to them so much. The former usually lost out.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 03:58 (thirteen years ago)
I don't remember my ballot but I might have voted for these ones. I see so many songs in these bottom 100 that I thought were a sure lock for the top 50 that now I have no honest idea what the actual top 100 will look like.

I'm predicting "You Made Me Realise" will make the top 25. I'm dreading the possibility that New Order album tracks will.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 05:08 (thirteen years ago)
Also Sonic Youth. Lots and lots of Sonic Youth.
― Moka, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 05:25 (thirteen years ago)
if "Denial" places high, that will be fine with me
― cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 05:40 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't vote for any New Order. Didn't seem right somehow.

― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:04 (thirteen years ago)
I think we're gonna be seeing that a lot from now on
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:15 (thirteen years ago)
eh once we get into the top 100 i'll more likely shrug "eh, at least in the top 100"
― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:16 (thirteen years ago)
FAR TOO LOW
― cake-like Lady Gaga (DJP), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:17 (thirteen years ago)
especially as some people think their top 50 should be the top 50.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:18 (thirteen years ago)

xp that's a good 'un, Generic Flipper is a great album, hoping that places high in the albums poll.
― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:40 (thirteen years ago)
yes, shriekback, the cramps and young gods. all too low :) xp
― stirmonster, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:43 (thirteen years ago)
and, if there's ever a best handclaps poll, surely "ever" would be a shoo-in for the top ten?
― stirmonster, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:45 (thirteen years ago)
great to see Living Colour and Flipper here.
is Sex Bomb considered "rock" enough for this poll? if so, it should be top 10!
― gospodin simmel, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)
oh yes, it was nominated...

I didn't say too low because it surely means Sex Bomb is safely in the 100. Like Rats is far too low though, as is Fists Of Love.

yup, too low
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:09 (thirteen years ago)
I think both Ever and Sex Bomb are definitive "anti-canon" tracks that really exemplify the poll, but Ever prob. suffered from vote-splitting.
xxp
― Hellhouse, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:09 (thirteen years ago)
"Ever" being nom'd smacks a bit of first track tokenismm. Generic album track I'd've voted for would probably be 'Way of the World'
― did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:17 (thirteen years ago)
It was you who nominated it

― some dude, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)
