I have to be one of the biggest Queensryche 'fans' here and they only made #34 on my tracks ballot. "Queen of the Reich" would have also placed if I could have picked 100 tracks. Operation: Mindcrime made the top 10 of my albums ballot, which almost guarantees it a placing in the top 250, right?
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:13 (thirteen years ago)
Never said I was doing a top 250 for albums
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)
Huh, I actually enjoyed "Clothes Hoist".
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)
Why Not Now?..Alan! is some intense stuff for sure.
― Neckbeard's Castle (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:15 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, I don't know why I never heard of F/i before.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:16 (thirteen years ago)
Sadly we only got 493 albums with votes so cant do a top 500...
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)
F/i rule I love them, but tbh I thought George & I were the only ones on here who did so I AM pleased to see them here.
that particular F/i track placing below Party at Ground Zero, a fucking Taco Bell jingle unfit even for disgusting savages, is a "you're dead to me" moment.
DEAD! BAH!
*shakes fist*
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)
I can't find much info on F/i. Nothing about them on AMG, other than just a list of recordings, no apparent Wikipedia entry.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)
Oh nm there's something on progarchives.
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/f-i-mn0000414794
and then one left to behttp://www.allmusic.com/artist/vocokesh-mn0000811600 (who are amazing too)
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)
When members of his former band, F/I, expressed desire to go in a more song-oriented direction, Richard Franecki decided it was time to move on and formed the more loosely structured Vocokesh. Influenced by the industrial sounds of Throbbing Gristle and the space rock of Hawkwind and Pink Floyd, Franecki grabbed a couple F/I members and released the vinyl-only Ispepnaibara ("Arabian Pepsi" backwards) in 1991 on the experimental label RRR.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)
my tracks ballot was kind of halfhearted; I wasnt even going to make one, which is why I didnt nominate any tracks, and most of my favourite tracks werent nominated. That said, F/i is a band I love but haven't heard a ton from so I was a bit sparing about voting for them, at least in tracks.
I did vote for one F/i track which hopefully will show up sooner or later
xp to sund4r, F/i = Richard Franecki, from Wisconsin, went on to form Vocokesh. Here's an interview with him: http://www.scaruffi.com/interv/vocokesh.html
(most of it is Vocokesh focused)

ah, man, that vid was on the (admittedly unwieldy) YouTube thread! I think after we passed ten or so vids, people stopped trying to open the fucking thread because it was a definite browser-crasher.
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:24 (thirteen years ago)
This is more informative than the AMG page, actually: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4250

that's cool. if nothing else, I'm glad more people appreciate the band.
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)
man it would be rad if that F/i song I voted for made top 100
― did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:39 (thirteen years ago)
there are three more, but I'll be surprised to see them.

― Neckbeard's Castle (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)
Enjoying the mini run of SHORT SONGS too.
― Neckbeard's Castle (Mr Andy M), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)
me too! though I'm sure someone played a track by them for me on outloud and I liked it and then forgot about it. I'm a big Vocokesh fan but never really thought to look deeper into the members' other output.
― gesange der yuengling (crüt), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
kudos to whoever put "You Suffer" at #1. I was thinking about it but didn't.
as a kind of anti-canon statement?
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:50 (thirteen years ago)
legit curious, btw
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)
actually Electric Waltz might be even better tbh
― did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 23 September 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)
not as an anti-canon statement. just to show my appreciation for the form. a little capsule of heavy noisy rock/metal.

for anyone interested in F/i:
a copy of the excellent RRR comp Out of Space & Out of Time, which includes all five of the F/i nominations, can be found here.
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
Killing Joke are v. cool, but I'm still waiting for one of the other noms to show up.
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
I misread for a minute and thought you said it was out of print xp
I would def recommend the CD copy of Space Mantra with the Boy Dirt Car split LP side on it as well
― did drake invent yolo (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:12 (thirteen years ago)
the RRR comp is from '93, and I'm p. sure it's out of print, so grab a copy if yr. interested. Space Mantra is definitely cool, and I think can still be had via Forced Exposure.

― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:19 (thirteen years ago)
I nominated What I See, and it was a top 15 track. probably my favorite track on Damaged, if only for the classic Chuck Dukowski bassline.
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)
I think I need the F/i T-shirt
http://www.sixthstation.com/fi/swag.html
Space Mantra CD is a bit costly at Amazon, possibly it slipped out of print when not looking. But here is the Amazon page for Why Not Now Alan:

I still have four other Black Flag nominations, though, and I think at least one of those will be much higher.
xp
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)
the three best tunes on Why Not Now? Alan! are on Out of Space & Out of Time, fwiw. you saw the link for that, right?
― Hellhouse, Sunday, 23 September 2012 21:26 (thirteen years ago)
check out the Forced Exposure website. they have a bunch of F/i CDs available.

I THINK that's true for me, in that it's my favourite BHS song and I think I voted for it.
